“With every crucial delay, with every blunder and misstep, the toll is going to be measured in lives lost.”

We health care workers are, and have been, on our own. We are making decisions hospital by hospital because there is no centralized response or clear guidelines. Surgeons had to make their own decisions about canceling elective surgeries while the surgeon general, an anesthesiologist, lectured journalists on what type of stories they should be writing. With every crucial delay, with every blunder and misstep, the toll is going to be measured in lives lost.

Health care workers have had some of the worst outcomes when confronted with this virus, dying at higher rates than expected for their ages. And yet doctors will be the ones treating Elon Musk’s workers, who were expected to report to the Tesla factory in California — even though the county they were in had ordered citizens to shelter in place. Who is there to protect those frontline workers from the failure of this government?

Each day we get more reports of health care workers infected, hospitalized, and dying all over the world. This week we lost the brilliant Dr. Steven Schwartz to COVID-19 in Seattle. Others will follow. They will continue to die because of the inaction of their leaders. Their lives will end because factories were not taken over by their governments to manufacture test kits and personal protective equipment in time. They will die because they are putting their limp, used masks in little brown paper bags after their 12-hour shift, to be used again tomorrow; they are wiping down their lone allotted face shields with disinfectant, or wrapping them in saran wrap, and cutting plastic Coke bottles to make new ones. They will inadvertently infect their patients because they are reusing disposable gowns, and MacGyver-ing equipment to make do with what they have to serve as many they can. Meanwhile, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is issuing guidance about how to use bandanas and scarves to deal with the dearth.

snip//

There is a shooter looking down the barrel of a gun that points straight at each and every one of these people ― and every front line health care worker in this country. Once they are taken out, our first line of defense will be eroded. Many of us will get sick and more of us will die. This is a crime — and there are people directly responsible for it. Blood will be on the hands of those who have sent health care workers to war without armor, to fight battles brandishing pool noodles instead of swords.

Where are the masks?

The shortage of personal protective equipment is particularly acute. Medical workers are supposed to be using N95 masks, which reduce their exposure by filtering out at least 95 percent of particles in the air. But on Wednesday, President Trump said his administration had ordered 500 million of these masks after receiving complaints about widespread shortages. To cope with the burgeoning coronavirus crisis, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told nurses to use bandanas and scarves as last-resort masks. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, meanwhile, have access to N95 masks as they apprehend immigrants during a national pandemic.

Trump Told Governors to Buy Own Virus Supplies, Then Outbid Them

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker told Trump during a video conference on Thursday that his state three times lost out to the federal government on purchases of critical supplies, creating an awkward moment during the made-for-TV event at Federal Emergency Management Agency headquarters in Washington.

“I’ve got a feeling that if someone has the chance to sell to you and to sell to me, I am going to lose on every one of those,” a sheepish-sounding Baker told Trump, who chuckled at the remark.

that he refused to acknowledge,

that he claimed was a hoax,

that he said he had under total control,

that he said would "miraculously" disappear,

that he claimed was a democratic attempt to oust him,

that he said we could ALL get tested for,

that he said was caused by the Chinese,

that he said deaths would be almost none,

then he should FUCKING die.

For the people deciding to take N95 masks from our healthcare professionals and give them to ICE.

I did not know I could get any angrier than I already am. Well, congratulations-- that story just did it.

I don't doubt that Dr. OP knows that as well as anyone here - and we all know it.

But those who didn't care when he criminally trashed the Constitution - those who didn't care when he criminally locked children in cages - those who didn't care when he criminally seduced/bribed/extorted foreign governments - those who don't know how much of the taxpayers money he has criminally ripped off for personal use and wouldn't care if they did - if all that didn't bother them, I don't see why this would.

That just happened to have a huge inventory of masks for their workers.

When the drugstores all ran out, smart and resourceful people went to their local wood working stores and bought a bunch......
Same thing for gloves, many couldn't find them and people went to their local auto parts stores which had the same gloves for use by auto mechanics.......

Having had some microbiology courses, when the CDC and WHO started broadcasting what their computer models were telling them, we took their word over lardasse's and dug in and started stocking up. As we were unloading the stuff at our home months ago, republican neighbors were yelling "HOAX" at us and laughing because they felt we were stupid. Recently one came out of their house, glared at me, and went on their way without even saying a neighborly hello.....

I can only expect that Republican voter's assholes are beginning to hurt, and maybe realizing they too are going to get fucked over by their own loyalty to the Republican Party.......They were all so stupid to believe that the Republican Party they worshipped, would only fuck over the Dems.......

James Carville was being interviewed on 2016 election night and he was laughing at the fact that Trump was winning. One of the other talking heads asked him "why are you laughing? Trump is winning" Carville smiled and said: " Republican voters are soon going to learn that their voting has consequences"..............NO SHIT.......

that my minimal stocking up, way in advance, two months ago, drastically affected the nations supply, can you. Your accusation is so mindless, on oh so many levels.......

The reality is, that I was listening to the CDC, and not Trump, the Republicans BS, Fox News, and Rush Limbaugh. And, I had an education that included Biology and Microbiology..........

that their tax cuts depleted the treasury, and he is even talking about more tax cuts for the rich to get them to vote for him.
He and the Republicans are trying to transfer all responsibility fiscally for everything to the states on purpose..

Trump's phony billionaire claims are about to come crashing down around him and he is frightened to death that 50 million voters will see him and his family for what they are......Uber Corrupt Grifters.

His only hope is that Putin, Russian Oligarchs and the Saudi's bail him out once again.

Putin is laughing his ass off at how simple it was to destroy the U.S. and Democracy, and that he didn't have to fire a single weapon.....

Trump has left all of us with the only hope left, that is, crossing our fingers...........

we should have quarantined every international traveler, only allowed in returning americans, and shut down international flights as soon as it was obvious in china how bad this was. also should have started mass producing test kits as soon as WHO has them. drumpf's toadies say they weren't "accurate" and we needed to make out own. absurd. even if they weren't perfect they wrre something. if they gave false positives we could have retested. instead the virus set up shop all over the country while drumpf was calling it Democrat hoax.

Trump is obviously a very mentally sick person. Yes he's a horrible person, with no empathy for anyone, a pathological liar, and a narcissist to boot. But we can also see him breaking down before our eyes.

But the Republicans in the Senate, led my Mitch McConnell had the chance to remove him and chose unanimously to let him continue to destroy Democracy in the US. This mess is on them! They know that Trump is totally and completely unsuited to be President, the he is a criminal who cares only for himself and refuses to listen to anyone about anything. But so long as the GOP Senators can keep the cash cow that is making them rich keep sending lobbyists with suitcases full of cash and the corporate titans to keep sending truckloads of cash to help Senators get reelected regardless of the fact that the GOP doesn't give a damn about its constituents only about getting filthy rich they will do whatever their cash cow masters want them to do and to hell with the rest of the country.

I'm now sure whether we need a Truth and Reconciliation Commission or Nuremberg like trials, but we have to do something to let the country know we ain't going to take this shit anymore!
