Let's play "would you rather?"

My son just mentioned something I hadn't previously considered...

He works in the restaurant business as a kitchen manager, and, needless to say, business is awful.

So, fearful for his job, this is what he just said to me:

"I'd rather be infected with the coronavirus than to lose my job for two or three months".

Would you rather?

That's a lot easier to say when you are not in a demographic with the higher death rate... RockRaven Mar 2020 #3

I’d rather the sick and infirmed get the care they need without the risk of dying from a pandemic virus.

This isn’t about individuals anymore. It’s about preserving the medical system in order to prevent a mass death event.

The economic pain -- and it is vast -- does not correlate with death risk -- which is also vast -- across most demographics. That is something competent state and federal administrations would be grappling with. Unfortunately we definitely do not have the latter, and the former is hit-and-miss depending on where you live.

But to answer your question, both options generate a sickening feeling of anxiety. Given that I've got a lot of relatives in the more-vulnerable category, I guess I'd go for the 2-3 month job loss.
