In order to cover up his failures on this, he's looking for anything for the Trumpers to bite into....and he knows "fake news" is one of those things....same thing in regards to blaming another country for why this has gotten so bad. He knows the Trumpers will eat all of that up and forget about how he screwed up all of this.
