I'm very glad I started preparations back in January

I'm in no need of tp for some time. The bidets I got are working well so what tp we use is for pat drying.

I got a good supply of surgical mask, N95 masks, disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer and bleach. The place I bought the surgical masks now sell them for $24.50 for a box of 50 (they are currently out of stock) and I was able to get them for $10 a box back in January.

I'm getting good at using the hand sanitizer when I'm out and about doing errands. It's becoming second nature. Same thing with disinfecting high touch items in the home. It's become part of my daily routine like doing the dishes, putting food and water out for the dog and making the bed. Washing my hands properly was something I had trained myself to do back when I was a foster parent.

While I had a good supply of food on hand, I've had the time to fine tune it. Come up with a menu list so there'd be variety in our diet over an extended period of time and using that, I was able to do a good inventory of my stock to make sure I had all ingredients needed on hand.

My wife and I love to play Yahtzee. We also got a cribbage board, some decks of cards and the book "According To Hoyle" so we can add some variety to our entertainment.

My dad and I learned it years ago using the Hoyle book. It was a bit of a learning curve for us but so worth the effort. An ingenious game.

I will hunker down with my daughter or youngest son. Neither one have children at home and they live in areas without close neighbors and have limited contact with others. Both keep fully stocked freezers and pantries at all times.

My daughter works from home. Her husband works out of town with a three man crew. They are the only ones on the jobsite, they are staying at an airbnb and eating carryout meals, therefore limiting their contact. While he is home this weekend I'm staying with my son. My daughter and I are cooking and freezing meals for him to take back with him so they can further limit their contact.

My son is in communications and doesn't interact with the public. His employer has specified that employees in his field work singly in equipment rooms to minimize their risk of contact.

I told my employer Wednesday that I was taking time off. He understood since I am in high risk category, as he is. He has gone from "it's no worse than the flu" to stark realization in a weeks time. There are no cases reported in our area, but there are so few tests being done that there is no way of knowing true numbers.

Not so much for the OP’s post here, but for the numerous other posts that he’s made about being prepared.

Good for him for preparing. But others are doing the best they can with perhaps different incomes, resources, transportation, storage capabilities, etc.

The whole purpose of being prepared is so that, once your own needs are met, you use your resources to help others with any excess.

We are ALL dealing with this in the best way we are able.

The bulk of what I may need for a self quarantine I already had well before anyone heard of COVID-19. I did have to make some additions that were virus specific but I did much of that in January. A positive about preparing is that I'm not competing with others now for scarce items. If it's on the shelf, others can have it.

then this will not go on for as long. Every doctor or nurse who has to work without a mask will end up spreading the infection further, and every doctor or nurse who is put in isolation may not be there to save your life.

I consciously chose not to buy a supply of masks when I could because I knew they would run out and front line responders would then not be able to get them as a result. I can self isolate. They can't.

Being on SSDI, I can't afford much more then that so I do have to go out once a week to get supplies so I don't burn through my stock right off the bat. There have been no confirmed cases within a 150 miles of where I live but I expect that to soon change and I have no idea how long this will last.

Right after Trump was elected I told everyone here I was starting an emergency fund. I told everyone how they could do it. I am now using my emergency fund I started 3 years ago. I took myself out of work, unpaid leave and I have enough in my fund to last many months.

Is that bragging? If you think it is, tough shit.

FOX News viewers? The ones that aren’t preppers were stunned early this week. Some I work with were talking about how they were going to start sticking up. They’re in for a surprise at the store.

FOX did not give them the information they needed to protect their families or to prepare for a shutdown.
