McConnell's trying to fuck low-income Americans with COVID-19 bill.

Some Senate Republicans are raising concerns about a provision in a mammoth stimulus package unveiled Thursday that would reduce the amount of cash assistance for lower-income individuals.

Sens. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) and Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) are pushing for changes to the provision, arguing that individuals with little or no tax liability should get the same $1,200 check that Republicans are promising for individuals who make up to $75,000.

"The current bill has promise but it shouldn’t give lower earners smaller checks — that’s directly contrary to my proposal. We need to fix this to ensure lower earners get equal payments," Romney tweeted on Thursday night.

"Relief to families in this emergency shouldn’t be regressive. Lower-income families shouldn’t be penalized," Hawley said.

Part of that plan is to give a one-time check of $1,200 to individuals who make up to $75,000. The amount received would then begin to scale down until it reached an income threshold of $99,000, where it would phase out completely. The income levels would be based on 2018 tax returns.

1. That provision for only $600 for lowest incomes was in the small print that few news articles caught

Glad its getting spotlighted as the provision seems mean spirited to only give half to those with small pension incomes who therefore don't pay much income tax, whereas others such as seniors getting pensions but with higher incomes in addition to pensions because of interest income or other supplemental earnings get the full $1200 each.

2. Underfunding the American people now by Republicans

NOW, will only drive us into a depression from hurting the people and it not being enough, and by under stimulating the economy , which is needed right now , or it'll get much much worse and very quick. They're about to make another huge mistake if they use these numbers. Republicans are about to cause even more harm to our economy, and no one to blame for this when it does. The trade wars should be stopped now. The tax scam bill should be reversed now. We have a president in a national crisis refusing to do his job, and instead trying to lie his way out of another trump screw up. This Apprentice needs to be fired , or called to resign for this now.

These assholes are also against minimum wage increases, people been cheated for ton$, but it is their fault for not valuing their time properly?

The federal minimum wage if it kept up with inflation would be 3x+ as much as it currently is?

Are trying to screw over the American people by passing out skimpy checks now ,and you knew this was coming when trump showed his tell when he was lying claiming he was going big with this stimulus knowing all along he was really stiffing the American people like he does contractors. We'll find out eventually the many ways he and his people will profit from this stimulus , after its already done. We're already seeing they've profited from their insider position for stock manipulation by them.

5. That's a crap plan. What if your income drastically changed from 2018, downward.

They should give everyone over 21 $1200 up to say at least 100k income. 75k is prehistoric times.

While they throw good money after bad. Corporations should be given loans. Not carte blanche free no strings attached money.

made enough with my small craft business to file taxes in 5 years. I imagine I won't see any help from anywhere. As it is I am eating every other day to make sure they eat. I am nearing the end of my rope. I am just invisible to those in power.

I know I am non existent to pretty much everyone. I have not worked much at all for the last seven years. I have health conditions that make me unreliable, so therefore I am useless. I have not earned anything for them to tax me out of most of it, so I am worthless. I cannot be exploited by wage slavers, but I am being slowly ruined by medical bills. To be honest, I am hoping I do get that damn thing and I hope it finally removes my decrepit self from this failed life. I just want to see the downfall of the biggest threat to this country before I go. REMOVE THE REPUBLICAN THREAT!

10. Romney shows another sign of having a conscience!

This is the man who once (arguably) lost his shot at the presidency when he was caught telling a bunch of wealthy donors that 47% of Americans are dependent on government, pay no income tax, and take no responsibility for their lives.

Then, in the impeachment, he shocked a lot of people by casting a vote that was brave and conscientious.

I thought that was a one-off.

And now look: In this government stimulus, he insists on including the people who need it most and will spend it the fastest.

It's starting to look like we need more Republicans like Mitt.

LDS runs the largest non-government welfare system in the country. They believe people who need help should get it.

OTOH, Hawley being the other senator IS a surprise.

It should start at an amount for people that have zero income and then decrease when you get to $50K.

Anyone who makes $200k per year, $250k per couple should have the ability to get no interest loans.

Look, my house is paid for. I've got a great military pension. I'm retired. I don't need money from the government. Financially, I'm going to be fine.

Low and middle class income folks should get the bulk of any bailout.

99% of the help should go to 99% of the people. Not one percent above 1% should go to the 1%

Don't file taxes because they don't make enough to file. They are the ones who need the stimulus money.
