The Trump administration is asking state labor officials to delay releasing the precise number of unemployment claims they are fielding, an indication of how uneasy policymakers are about further roiling a stock market already plunging in response to the coronavirus outbreak.
In an email sent Wednesday, the Labor Department instructed state officials to only provide information using generalities to describe claims levels (very high, large increase) until the department releases the total number of national claims next Thursday.
The email, which was shared with The New York Times, noted that the reports were monitored closely by financial markets and should therefore remain embargoed. States should not provide numeric values to the public, wrote Gay Gilbert, the administrator of the departments Office of Employment Insurance.

(14,988 posts)If you released the data on some other schedule previously, then follow that schedule. If you didn't, then don't.
Stop allowing Repukes to game the markets for personal gain based on their knowledge of government data/information. We know Burr and Loeffler both acted upon federal government information not available to the general public to sell stocks prior to the market crashing. Eric Trump's "buy stocks" tweet acts as a "tell" to imply that the Trump family did likewise. Don't enable them.

(14,176 posts)who I can totally see going after states if they go against his regime's request to withhold the numbers. Imagine Cuomo or Newsom or Inslee decides to be transparent about this and he figures out a way to screw the state, like when he wanted to withhold aid to CA after the fires.
