(25,471 posts)What exactly do you expect them to do? They can't hold everyone indefinitely. They don't have room and there's that due process thing.
There's also more to it, as noted in the article.

(4,465 posts)The jails could easily become extremely overcrowded, no room for murderers , robbers and the like. Hotbeds for COVID-19, riot and escape prone.
Seems like the only thing to do in this critical situation.

(7,541 posts)If it doesn't involve violence, don't call us. Crimes against property rightly should be quite low on their priority list. Cessation of evictions and forclosures would be appropriate.
