I live in a place where most of the students get free breakfast and lunch, so many students that it's simply not worth accounting for the students who could pay for breakfast and lunch. Every child gets a free breakfast and lunch just for coming to school.

I always felt weird about that so I'd make lunches for my children and contribute to the schools in other ways beyond taxes.

But it was always nice that if my kids forgot their lunches, which they did, I knew they wouldn't go hungry. No calling dad to bring a lunch.

No child should ever be hungry in a nation that dares call itself civilized.

1. The thing about providing it for all

There's no stigma attached to getting free meals when everyone is provided with them. I think it's a great idea.
