(51,610 posts)If we don't we will have this thing going on for 6 months. Can the economy handle that? NO. NO. NO! Can we handle that? NO. NO. NO!!!
Nip it in the bud NOW! Stop air travel. We need a national lock down tomorrow. Yesterday would have been better. Americans will not voluntarily do this. No way! Not our society. You have to force them, even if it is for their own good. DUH is our middle name.

(8,168 posts)Projection for March 31st went from about 83,000 cases to about 59,000 cases in the past 2-3 days. I'm hoping it's an actual trend and not a statistical glitch or testing anomaly.

(111,277 posts)Our data will be junk since our appalling and inadequate patchwork of for profit health insurance does not serve everyone and puts up significant barriers in terms of copays and deductibles to the people it does serve. Never mind those tests are being portioned out like they're gold plated by a government that really doesn't want to know the worst.

(1,178 posts)I'm hoping that doesn't give people a false sense of security....otherwise people will think we have this beat, but instead end up causing it to spread even further. It's sort of like having a 10-day prescription and after 6 days feeling great that you quit taking the prescription all the way through, but end up doing more damage than good.
It's possible they've topped out on testing or it's unevenly available. Italy is pretty big.
US rate of increase still looks terrible - exponential, doubling every 3.5 days looking at it by eye. We might go thru an apparent explosive growth if we get testing going, even if the lockdowns are actually working.

I hope your employer does everything possible to keep you safe and healthy. My thoughts are with you and all healthcare professionals. 🙏🏻 Thank you.

(25,253 posts)are they on the downside of the crisis there? What about S.Korea? What about the other countries that have been ahead of the U.S. in having to deal with this?
Is there a pattern - bell curve like they are showing us with the flattening graph - and are most of those countries that have had to deal with this before us - peaked and/or leveling?

(81,516 posts)China ferries 332,000 workers back to work with special trains
Monday, 16 Mar 2020
10:53 PM MYT
BEIJING: China on Monday (March 16) transported 332,000 workers to their workplaces with special trains amid the novel coronavirus outbreak, official data showed.
By Sunday, the China State Railway Group Co, Ltd. had sent 300 such trains since Feb 16, with another 13 trains ready to leave in the near future.
The latest such train carrying over 200 workers southbound from central China's Hunan Province arrived at Shenzhen, one of the country's major manufacturing hubs, on Monday morning.
The special trains are among China's efforts to smooth transportation for work and production resumption amid the outbreak, as those trains run non-stop to their destinations with "green channels" for workers.
Meanwhile, Chinese Vice Premier Sun Chunlan called for unremitting efforts to curb the Covid-19 and targeted policies to boost work resumption.
Leading a central government group to guide the epidemic control work in Hubei, the centre of the coronavirus outbreak, Sun, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks while inspecting production resumption and spring plowing in Wuhan, capital of Hubei.
The group inspected automobile factories, food processing enterprises, and vegetable bases.
Hubei and Wuhan should strengthen the support for enterprises to resume operation, Sun said, especially transportation to facilitate people within the province to return to work and serve logistics.
Sun also urged related administrations to solve practical difficulties and problems in the fields including taxation, finance and supply chain for enterprises.
Government at all levels should ensure the supply of protective materials for the virus to enterprises and guide companies to improve disinfection and temperature testing, Sun stressed. - Xinhua/Asian News Network

Some of the countries have individual breakouts
So Korea seems the most believable, but the Chinese graph certainly offers hope.

(2,195 posts)especially by "liberals" is concerning. It's one thing to quarantine those proven
positive with a communicable disease but stopping entire populations is something
else. Rethugs and other criminals let this happen. It's up to others to respond reasonably.

How about a 327-million-person class action lawsuit under the Federal Tort Claims Act that leaves Trump destitute for the rest of his pitiable life?

(11,087 posts)They are still increasing by thousands per day.The rate of increase may have slowed a little, though it is hard to tell--the rate bounces around a lot. In the last 3 days, the number of cases has increased by 10,000.

(754 posts)The rate of increase, if it stays arithmetic, is sure better news than the exponential explosion. We will have to see if it is true. There have been anomalies in their data before.
This is a stage in epidemics and other network problems like this - eventually it just can't find enough suitable hosts to infect to maintain the exponential or geometric growth. It's obviously still not good enough.
