Is it an immediate pos/neg type test or do they send you the results?

(3,184 posts)1. I know someone who was tested and got results back the same day.
Not sure how long she had to wait for the results. She's a Stage IV lung cancer patient and it came back negative but she does have the flu.

(3,184 posts)5. I heard around 5 CDT that she had the results.
She lives out in Arizona so the turnaround time can't be too horribly long.

(10,303 posts)2. Depends on who is doing the testing.
In NC, the state lab can have a result same day. I'm told LabCorp and Quest are taking longer.

Hopefully they can get this process up and running, REALLY fast. Our governor is being really proactive so hopefully we will be getting testing updates, soon, in Michigan.

(17,087 posts)6. They have to be sent to a lab.
Initially, they were all processed in one lab (CDC?) but are now being processed locally, or soon will be.

(16,616 posts)7. What CNN has been saying: If the lab can do its own testing, 4 to 6 hours.
If the swabs have to be sent out to another lab it can take up to 5 days.
