(34,094 posts)He has acquiesced, at least partly, to some White House demands that are driven by politics. I understand he has to do a delicate dance between voicing the truth and not angering Trump to ensure that he is not dumped and some high school senior brought in to replace him.
My current posture is that I take whatever concern he actually expresses and magnify it at least 10-fold.

(2,199 posts)There is some useful info scattered among the garbage. Fauci communicated good prevention advice.
Pence just said their focus is on the health and well-being of the American people. I know that's not true.

(55,148 posts)Two people were diagnosed in the County (Lee) where I live & one of those died that evening. Also just north of me (Charlotte County) another one was diagnosed. This was not released toll Monday.

(2,199 posts)It seems states are finally getting test kits, so expect the number of infected to climb significantly in the coming days.
I hate to think the test kit delay was intention so that Trump could say everything is under control but I do.

(6,448 posts)Before discovering DU, I would find that Drew Curtis' FARK was 3 days earlier than CNN on Yuge topics. Submitters send in stories often with a fresh humorous title (Two Bombs Explode in Turkey--Feathers Everywhere!).
My TV is off, except for SVU and Chicago PD. Real Time is 1 hour per week too. Since the networks helped elect Trump, they're on a time-out until he's gone.

I also have the added benefit that my H works for the Governor and is involved with the response (mostly the financing part but some policy decisions, too.) He is on the call ins twice daily, along with other things.
According to my husband, the Governor is very calm in the office (unusual for him.)

New York governor: "Like it or not, were going to have to make some tough decisions"
From CNN
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he will ask the state's business leaders to reduce workplace density during the coronavirus outbreak.
Possible tactics include running two shifts of workers and letting workers who can work from home to do so.
He said in a city like New York City, theres no such thing as social distancing, youre always within six feet of a person.
We really need to take more aggressive actions. This is not going away on its own," he added. Like it or not, were going to have to make some tough decisions, and were going to have to start to act united to reduce the density, more testing more testing more testing thats the only way to reduce the spread. We dont want to overreact but we understand we have to take aggressive actions and were looking at all those large gatherings today and I will have an announcement either later today or tomorrow.
Cuomo said the state cases as of this morning are at 193 but added, were going to get another tranche of numbers in the next couple of hours.
We test around-the-clock now so the number constantly adjusts, but it is constantly going up and that shouldnt give people alarm," he said.
Cuomo said he anticipates the number of cases will keep going up for weeks, and warned that the virus is much more advanced than we are seeing in any of these numbers.

(1,294 posts)the most behind the scenes. He is not an easy person to work for.
I lived through Hurricane Lee and Sandy when my H was Director of NYS Emergency Communications and the craziness was off the charts. My husband literally was in the Bunker working 24/7 for weeks and weeks.
He was home last night by 7:30 which is pretty normal, except during certain periods having to do with budget and normal crises, of which there are several all the time. And its budget time of year but thankfully negotiations are going smoothly so far.
And, of course, his work never really stops. Calls, emails, etc., are still constant.
Squinch
(51,018 posts)communications were amazing. Kudos to your husband!
Strangely, I don't remember hurricane Lee.

More a rain event with catastrophic flooding.
My kid was going to college for his freshman year the next day and I had to bring him myself to Maine. Id hardly had any sleep and was very cranky. Made for not great experience for either of us.
My H has been with the State for 30 years. Hes been through it all.
