Corona Virus Determined to Strike in US

From the Salon article by Froomkin we learn that HHS Azar alerted Trump in January 2020 about the corona virus. Instead of acting he whined about vaping. Last week Trump falsely blamed Obama for the Trump administration's slowness in diagnostic testing.

In January Trump was busy with other things like killing Suleimani and possibly starting a war with Iran, working to be acquitted and tweeting attacks on his enemies.

But he WAS informed about the corona virus threat.

On Saturday, Jan. 18, a day after the C.D.C. dispatched 100 people to three American airports to screen travelers coming from Wuhan, China, Mr. Azar made his first call to Mr. Trump about the virus, dialing him directly at Mar-a-Lago, his Florida estate. The president insisted on talking about e-cigarettes first, but Mr. Azar steered him to the virus.

The Post reported another, similar conversation, this one face-to-face:

During a late January meeting at the White House, Azar was having trouble focusing Trump's full attention on his coronavirus briefing. Azar had arrived to brief the president on the latest virus news, but Trump instead interjected, badgering the health chief about the administration's messy decision to implement a limited ban on flavored e-cigarettes.

Why did you push me to insert myself into a controversial political issue? Trump demanded.

Jan 18 is very early in this crisis for the U.S. Today is March 10. January 18 is 7 weeks ago. When this gets around, if it does, then Trump is done. If this is true, and I believe it is, then Trump cannot defend this utter stupidity. Mr. Donald Trump has lost, and he will be gone soon.

...If Azar talked to Trump in January, then Trump cannot win. He will need to defend this action in January for ever and ever. And he cannot defend it. Azar, who I know little about, surely has more credibility than Trump.

Alex Azar is the current head of the Health and Human Services Department of the federal government. By telling Trump in January what was coming, he was doing his job, but Trump it appears paid no attention.

This is major news, Trump was told on January 18, what was coming, and did nothing but ignore what he was told by the Head of Health and Human Services, and that is someone Mr. Trump appointed.
