Expect a market rebound today

Futures are up about 3% as the markets prepare to open. "Buying on the dip" is normal--and there are some who are trying to keep the bear market away (a bear market is when the markets go 20% off the high--we're about 40 points from that on the S&P)

However, one swallow does not a summer make...

He seems unable to think beyond the next news cycle. That has worked for him in the past, but you can't gaslight a virus.

Starting off at roughly plus 3.5% (Dow, S&P and Nasdaq)--but how long will it last?

As always, my best advice when following the markets closely--buy Tums (you're going to need them!)

. . .between the low in March 2009 and the high in February 2020.

As Warren Buffett has said: "It's only when the tide goes out that you learn who has been swimming naked"

And AFAIC, until shown otherwise, this rise for the day may only be a pause before the knives continue to fall. While I'm taking a hit (on paper), I'm staying on the sidelines until things settle down.

Market recovered 1167 points today. What will tomorrow bring? Right now the futures are up a bunch. But the one thing I know is that none of us knows what the market will do tomorrow.

12. As we round into the end of the day---UP over 3%
Tue Mar 10, 2020, 03:39 PM
Mar 2020

DOW up 3.22%
Nasdaq up 3.61%
S&P up 3.5%

Interesting note from this morning:

A Tuesday rebound would not be unusual — Bespoke Investment Group strategists found that in the 10 previous times since 1952 that the S&P 500 fell 5% or more on a Monday, the index has gained the following day, by an average of 4.2%.

Anyway....
DOW +4.89%
Nasdaq +4.95%
S&P +4.94%
