Fauci: Elderly, those with underlying conditions must suspend travel, no crowds "right now"

https://www.foxnews.com/media/dr-fauci-elderly-underlying-conditions-coronavirus

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on Monday that the elderly and those with underlying medical issues should immediately suspend all travel plans, warning that they could have an acute reaction if exposed to the virus.

" If you look at the people who wind up getting into serious difficulty and even dying, that’s very heavily weighted toward individuals with underlying conditions, particularly the elderly," Fauci told "Fox & Friends," Monday.

"No matter where they are, right now...the people with the underlying conditions need to distance themselves from crowds, not travel, not get on long air flights and certainly not get on a cruise ship."

— Dr. Fauci, 'Fox & Friends'

"That’s the reason why we have been saying lately how important it is to protect those vulnerable people by making sure no matter where they are right now, not a month from now, but right now, the people with the underlying conditions need to distance themselves from crowds, not travel, not get on long air flights and certainly not get on a cruise ship."

I think elderly is more of a "state of being" than a numerical age. nt Lisa0825 Mar 2020 #4

DH and I are both 63, in good health, have to fly to Florida (from Philly) in a month for our son’s wedding. Scared but not planning on canceling.

something earlier about those 60 and older. I am 66 and do not feel elderly but if I get this with the condition of my lungs I would not give much of a chance making it. I am going out today to buy a few things to make a couple of big batches of soup and bread then out to dinner with friends tomorrow then a meeting with our lawyer and I am holing in for a while after that and see what happens.

If I had a son's wedding to go to I would go too. Some things are just too important but be careful.

I would ask my son to postpone his wedding, or expect that I'll be sending my well wishes from far away.

A month from now is a near eternity in the scheme of this disease, chances are, he'll see the wisdom of a postponement in a week or two.

7. Home-made face masks

My husband and I went to look at a senior continuing-care facility this a.m., and the receptionist was wearing what appeared to be a home-made face mask, made of cloth, shaped to cover her nose, mouth and chin. It tied on with strings and looked like it was made out of some kind of light-weight quilted cotton material. It did not look "medical" or "scientific" at all, and after all the talk of the uselessness of masks I wondered why she was wearing it. It's possible she had a cold and was preventing her coughs and sneezes from spraying all over the place.

I've been thinking about making one for me and my husband, not because I believe it would protect me from the virus but because it would make sure my coughs and sneezes were covered and because it would prevent my touching my nose and mouth. Her mask looked a little like the mask worn by the villain in the old Ninja Turtle videos, only made of cloth, not metal:

Her mask looked a lot more comfortable than paper, and you could wash it every night. If I do make one, I'll report.

Yup, blame the left because we want to hurt Trump's economy.

"Mountains out of a molehills. That's what the lying leftwing media keeps doing. & Fox is part of that. Their goal is to create panic in our population, made up, it seems, primarily of sheep, frightened at anything they read. The propaganda media wants to hurt the economy so badly as to hurt Trump's economy. Newsflash leftists....It wouldn't matter. The people are on to all you liars. So publish your panic stories & continue to lie. You cannot ever make us turn on our president. Corona virus will soon be over & Trump will continue making our country great again."
