Richard Engel: "Virologist I spoke to told me Italy is a sign of what could be coming" (not good!)

Richard Engel ✔ @RichardEngel

Virologist I spoke to told me Italy is a sign of what could be coming. More testing led authorities to realize virus was far more widespread than previously detected, followed by imposition of major social distancing/ containment measures/ disruptions.

that the virus is a big problem and not just "the flu." And everyone will see how thoroughly he's fucked up the government's response to it because even if he does do something it will be too little, too late.

Just wait until they finally get up to speed with testing here, and state borders start to close. Not for nothing, but they didn't even do that on 9/11.

I have been posting on here most of the morning to distract myself. But honestly, I'm scared out my wits.

It would be ironic if the Trump administration imposed such measures, especially after all of the paranoid ideas about “FEMA camps” and martial law that I heard from right-wing conspiracy nuts about Obama. Those people were coworkers who SEEMED to be sane otherwise.

They're already doing that in Washington state. That and interstate travel restrictions will be the measures we'll see short-term.
