General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe virus ended Trump's run of unbelievable good luck. Trump will be removed this November.
For three years Trump made so many mistakes, was incredibly incompetent, put in place so many destructive policies, was corrupt like no other president and he never had to face a long term crisis, he never paid a price. He has ben the luckiest asshole I have ever seen. This virus is not going away, this virus has laid Trump bare. His lie's, fake shows, are not working this time.
The majority of Americans have had enough. Trump's loony tune base cannot save him.
Biden will beat Trump this November. Trump's lie's and attacks against Biden will not work because the American people know Joe. We know who Joe he is. He is the exact opposite of Trump. Policies no longer matter this election. All that matters to the American people is that Trump is removed. We all know Joe, we know he is honest, sane and safe. That's all that matters this election.

(4,379 posts)I could go on and on. So many things Trump did could have turned into a major disaster and nothing happened.

(6,110 posts)Trump could then declare national emergency and postpone election until further notice.
By bigger I am comparing the most recent flu pandemic in the US, initially known as "swine flu," occurred in 2009 with a novel influenza virus, H1N1, not previously identified in either animals or humans, per the CDC. The virus was actually first detected in the US, and spread quickly cross the US and the world. According to the CDC, between April 12, 2009 and April 10, 2010, there were 60.8 million cases, 274,304 hospitalizations, and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the US due to the virus. The CDC also estimated that up to 575,400 people died worldwide.

(6,110 posts)but I am hoping for the virus to shrivel and die during summer heat.

(21,567 posts)it might very well return in the fall. Flu epidemics, for example, act that way. There was the Asian Flu pandemic that started in China in 1957 and spread to the US. It died out over the summer and rhen another wave hit in 1958. That's when I got it as a child and was severely ill from it.
Viral infections seem to occur in waves for a couple years. But this is a new virus so we don't know for sure how it will act.
Or, it might continue through summer. MERS did not stop in the warm ME climates.
We just don't know.

(4,428 posts)That includes the election for President. If Trump wants to tell the States that the election must be postponed, I encourage all the red states to do so.
The Blue states can go ahead and have the election on schedule and vote his crooked orange ass out.

(21,567 posts)and the threat posed by them in the hands of Trump. I posted about it last fall and got some strong criticism for it. I referred to the Atlantic article, too.
But if it comes down to an abuse of emegency powers regarding election cancellation, are we obligated to accept that? Could we respond with demonstrations calling for a return of the powers of the states? A legitimate claim to states rights, as strange as that sounds from a Dem. If things reach that point, what's to lose from insistance on states rights to hold elections? If we lose that right, we've lost everything already anyway.

(6,110 posts)"The moment the president declares a national emergencya decision that is entirely within his discretionhe is able to set aside many of the legal limits on his authority." from above article.
More from the same article:
"The president could seize control of U.S. internet traffic, impeding access to certain websites and ensuring that internet searches return pro-Trump content as the top results."
Chilling knowing how crazy tRump is.

Biden or Bernie, whatever, both are infinitely superior to the Dumb Serial Liar there now.
If its Joe I hope they go Hunter Biden on him, since Trumps family has traded on his being in Office for profits way beyond the Biden angle.

anyway, wouldn't our concerns be better directed toward the fact that people won't WANT to wait in long lines of possibly contagious voters?
Shouldn't we prepare for a Get Out the VOTE BY MAIL campaign???
Whoever is the Democratic nominee really should make this a priority issue.
VOTE BY MAIL OR LET TRUMP STEAL AGAIN
something like that
We do it in Oregon and it's so easy I forget that others still have to wait in lines (or even get in the car--fuck that)!

(32,626 posts)Was there a particular reason for going that way? I thought the Help America Vote Act, mandated some uniformity which I thought was DRE's. This has got to be the perfect time to make a push for vote-by-mail.. no matter what state you're in.

(8,791 posts)Not only I hope this disasterous killer virus will, and has, exposed the whole GOP as incompetent, lying, money above all, (only theirs), to hell with "ALL Lives," treasonous Russian bought and paid for, propped up by right white wing radio and the shit machine Fox News is. If hundreds of thousands die, Rusty Limpballs, Fox Noise and then trump regime could be burned to the ground. Now THAT would damn sure make us great again. All these ass wipes have destroyed any greatness we had, so now it is damn correct to say we need to make America great again. And it will take hundreds of thousands of deaths, many their own, to yank enough trumpanzee heads out of his ass to accomplish our resurrection.

(7,639 posts)Several people have mentioned the possibility of Trump cancelling the Nov election until he decides the problem he helped make worse is contained to his satisfaction.
3 years ago this would have seemed like CT territory but so many outages have been committed and allowed to stand that few would doubt this could, at a minimum, be attempted. I say "attempted" because I have no idea if a President has the powers needed, and if he does, there would be any recourse.
If there was any recourse then I should think they'd wait until the last possible moment to try it.
If we do get back into power, no more pussyfooting around with these bastards anymore. Being all kumbaya "to allow the Nation to heal" or to be the bigger Party is what allowed this clear and present danger to Democracy and the rule of law to transpire.
I say never again!

(3,404 posts)Trump was ruined by his Access Hollywood tale, the republican senators and House members were running from Trump.
I was licking my chops making notes about all of the Bush Policies that we would overturn, make campaign finance laws to make citizens united illegal. Rebuilding the middle class and once again show fair taxation to the wealthy. After so many years we were back on the tract to utopia.......then on October 28, Jim Comey announce that he was reopening the investigation into Hilary Clintons emails.
It is obvious that the election was stolen in so many different ways. And since there was no penalty for it, efforts to do it again are underway.
