Random coronavirus thought before I head home

I was looking at the Johns Hopkins map of infections in the US/Canada.

It kind of makes sense that the bulk of the infections are on the west coast. And large or large-ish areas, e.g., NY, Toronto, and the Boston area (though still much fewer than the west coast).

I was struck by how few cases are in "flyover" country. A few scattered here and there, and not even too many in Chicago or Texas. So people who traveled from China to the west coast of the US don't travel much further east? Or those coming from South Korea or Italy or other outbreak locations don't travel beyond the coasts? Hey, maybe that's the case, but it still struck me as unusual. And only a few in the Atlanta area, home to one of the busiest airports in the world. No spread?

As a said, a random thought.

Also cattle.

Oh yeah. As relevant to the question above. People quarantined from the cruise ship.

for a family reunion.

Everything seemed much smaller and closer together than it used to - even though nothing had actually moved.

but my friend who is on the sequestered cruise ship off the coast of SF says that a lot of the people on the ship have southern-sounding accents. So always a possibility that those who may be infected or are carriers just haven't made it into the community-at-large in those areas as yet.

increase. Up until now, limited # of tests available combined with 1-2 week turnaround for results and half of the cases being without symptoms = no one really knows how widespread it is.
