In 2012, I wore a hoodie on the House Floor to make a statement about the deadly consequences of racial profiling. On Wednesday, Rep Matt Gaetz wore a gas mask in the chamber, making light of an epidemic that has killed 14 Americans.

(2,957 posts)They's say that a gas mask isn't a hat, so it isn't covered by the no hats rule. (While the hood on the hoodie covers the head, and is therefore a hat.) Also, the gas mask guy wasn't speaking at the lectern while the hoodie guy was. So...reasons.

(16,296 posts)Was just getting over some medical issues and wanted to spend some time at our local Indian casino. Sitting at my favorite slot, the air filtration system was working overtime blowing out cold air so I pulled up my hoodie to get more comfortable. A few minutes later a casino security guy comes over and tells me to remove the hoodie because "security cameras can't see your face."
I , in a nice way, said no way unless he goes over to a group of Asian women wearing masks and the guys in the next row with duckbill hats on and tell them to remove their masks and hats. He said those were allowed and at that point I told him I wasn't going to remove my hoodie unless he did the same to those I pointed out. He left me and my hoodie alone.

Gym Jordan wears his coat on the Floor of the house where it is required. He does not wear it at other times ( in committee). It is an attempt to try to keep some type of decorum on the House Floor. There is a dress code
