But there are some right wing crazy people in my area and I would be afraid to knock on doors.

You can choose to work in the census office instead, compiling the data and crunching the numbers.

Seems a much safer bet than wondering what kind of anti-government lunatic is going to answer the door.

Right now they've been asked to start working seven days a week. I sincerely don't mean to discourage you. At least she'll be getting all sorts of overtime. Just an fyi.

If it's "enumerator" you will likely be knocking on doors. But you don't go into people's homes and you basically stand outside and verify the address and hand them an envelop while you tell them you won;t be divulging any PII. Yo'll probably hand them a piece of paper telling them their rights under the Privacy Act and Title XIII. And you will identify yourself with the badge they issue.

Otherwise there are support positions like courier and the like. All supervisory jobs are high paid babysitting of adults. It's not all bad but very demanding and it must be your first job commitment, any other job cmes second for the duration.

I was a Crew Leader in 2010. That position is a pencil-pushing babysitting job that pays a decent wage. But it will follow you home and accost you at all hours. So demand all the overtime you use.

You can quit at any time.

It's more time consuming than anything. Crew Leader is easy to get and pays better than enumerator but there's a lot of responsibility. there are other jobs that are more under the radar in QC where enumerators are monitored on the job. Depends on your skills and how involved you want to get.

Enumerators can be less than full time and the pay is still pretty good... includes mileage and drive time. At least that's how it worked ten years ago.

I wonder how they will handle the physical aspect of enumerators' tasks since they want people to go online. Out in my state we are 90% rural and we hand delivered the questionnaires to most of the state. They have to go to a physical address, no PO Boxes.

I had to train all my enumerators as a crew leader and I would tell them that the best way to look at it is to think of it as a massive, long term research project conducted by John Q. Public. Puts perspective on the whole thing, especially those familiar with the scientific method.

Good luck. Some people really enjoy it and some don't.

For sure if they can, Republicans will exploit this situation to subvert the census and sabotage democracy.

Looking forward to hearing about your interview, Likes. Good question, but at least bringing the census to the point of kickoff has to be done.
