I'm curious about this...maybe it's just me but I get the feeling there's more folks here 40+ and stable enough financially to even have retirement savings or plans...

I am over 40, just bought my first home 3 years ago (still paying). Have retirement savings and a pension, BUT am drowing in student debt.

(6,117 posts)Yes, DU is an older crowd, mostly over 45. As for well off, it is much more diverse. A significant percentage are struggling financially, particularly those who are retired and those with health issues, or both. Many have mentioned major medical debt. There are homeless among us.

(6,496 posts)and I'm still one of the young ones at 40. I live in Maine, the oldest state, so offline life feels the same for me. 40 is the new 20 it seems.
