Just thinking today.... What if Obama...

.....became the first former President to become a Vice-President?

The 22nd Amendment says a person cannot be Elected more than twice
to the Office of President. It has no language that would prevent Obama from
being sworn in as President to finish the balance of the term if the President he
served under was unable or unwilling to continue in office.

I wonder if reThuglican heads would actually explode if Obama was drafted by our candidate
and he accepted the call to service once more.

But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.

Obama is only constitutionally eligible from being elected President again. Is he "ineligible to the office"? Unclear.

one clause in Art.2, Sec.1 dealing with how the Electoral College would elect the President and Vice-President, not the qualifications for office.

The qualifications for President were 1) natural born or citizen of US at time of adoption of the Constitution
2) 35 years old
3) resident within the US for 14 years

Before the 12A., the the runner-up in the presidential election was declared vice-president. Therefore, the qualifications were already the same for both persons since each was running for president.

Agreed, it's a thorny thicket, but in these days and times he could serve out an unexpired term before the litigation was concluded.

And there are 3 people who are absolutely ineligible because they've served 2 terms as president- Bill Clinton, Bush II, and Obama.

But... Obama could be appointed to the Supreme Court. And Michelle... well, at some point, Illinois Senator?

Or (wishing DC would become a state), DC Senator.

except that voters would dislike it so much they'd never elect whoever chose him as their vice-presidential candidate. Republicans' heads wouldn't explode; they'd just use it as the centrepiece of their attacks on the Democratic party as hating the Constitution.

Remember: "Own the other side" is the Republican's motto, not ours.

You’re not eligible to be VP.
I guess you could run, but you couldn’t be sworn in and take office if you won.

President Obama is term-limited out. So, while it is a nice thought, it can't happen.

I would REALLY like to see President Obama appointed Secretary of State, though.
