John Lewis today at the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

Kristen Clarke ✔@KristenClarkeJD

BREAKING: The amazing John Lewis maneuvered his way though a jam packed crowd on the Edmund Pettus Bridge, climbed on to a small ladder and urged us all to keep fighting and keep soldiering forward. An amazing moment as we close out this year’s #Selma55 bridge crossing.

That John Lewis, while battling pancreatic cancer, found the strength to stand on the bridge today and urge us all to go out and vote like we’ve never voted before, steps away from where he was attacked 55 years ago is one of the greatest moments of our democracy. #Selma55

I thought that bridge was going to be renamed. Rude to keep its name if Pettus was a white Karadeniz Mar 2020 #1

...the Edmund Pettus-John L. Lewis Memorial Freedom Bridge.

Keep the "Pettus" for its historical significance, but put John Lewis' name on it to honor his service and sacrifice in the cause of civil rights for all.

God Bless John Lewis!

He is fighting Cancer and the Trump Administration and still makes the pilgrimage to Selma to commemorate one of the great battles in the fight for civil rights.

God Bless John Lewis, we are so lucky to have him in our lives.

My father walked near John Lewis, and MLK, on the second march to over the Pettus Bridge in March 1965.

Alas, Dad is celebrating from Heaven that John is still marching for justice!

as a significant moment in our racial history, it’s just as important to remember what a dark and desperately violent day it was in our Nation’s history. At the time it looked like a huge and violently painful loss for the civil rights movement, but because it was filmed and made the news it tore the ignorance from our eyes.

Nothing gets resolved overnight or in the actions of one day, nor can we know what the outcome will be. So we must remember this in our present struggle with Trump and Senategate.
