Couple returns from S. Korea surprised U.S. not more cautious about coronavirus

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have flagged several countries with travel warnings, including South Korea.

A local couple just came back from Seoul, where they said almost everyone is wearing a face mask and their temperatures were checked at every building they walked into. They were disappointed when they came back to the United States and didn’t see the same thing.

The CDC has issued a Level 3 warning on South Korea, meaning that all non-essential travel to the Asian country should be avoided because there is a widespread, ongoing outbreak. It’s a hot zone for the coronavirus and Eric and Lynn Loring saw it first-hand.

“I’d say at least 95 percent of the people in Seoul were wearing face masks,” said Eric. Temperature sensors were in every building they went into. “They gave us two or three temperature tests. They are not doing that here. They were playing videos on the streets to tell you how to take care of yourself and how to sneeze,” said Lynn.

that include passengers who've been in Asia. Even local health officials.

As far as testing people....that's not going to go over very well here. Our collective personal pride and stubbornness goes directly against that sort of thing.

still believing themselves to be healthy. If everyone wore masks during an epidemic, it would reduce that type if transmission. Once someone realizes they are sick, they shouldn't be out and about even wearing a mask, and they may have already exposed others. I'm sure the CDC knows more about it than I do, but wearing a mask seems like a wise universal precaution.

I know you are referring to this, but it is not just about keeping the person wearing it from being infected, but to prevent him or her from infecting others.

That simple concept is chess to the idiots running this country playing who can burp the loudest.

Almost 700 jobs at CDC were left vacant after trumpy imposed his hiring freeze a few years back, we are feeling the consequences of that every day.

to try to control the spread of this virus as long as Trump is either calling it a hoax or downplaying the risk.

Like other authoritarian regimes, Trump's primary interest is himself and his brand image. He's large and in charge, so everything must be running perfectly to bolster his ego. Meanwhile, how many people will get sick unnecessarily? How far will the virus spread before angry people start demanding more from their govt than Trump's stage act?

Shanghai. 500 miles from Wuhan. They had been living and working there.

This was about 3 weeks ago flying into LAX. All they did was move the people from the plane into a waiting area and ask them a couple questions before they could move on to catch their next flights domestically. Basically have you been to Wuhan recently. If you said no you move on.

Anyone could lie and they probably did. This was people just trying to get him to their families. Very little chance most would risk being detained.

We were basically doing nothing to protect our people when we already knew a crisis was emerging.
