https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/michigan/2020/02/25/prosecutors-took-months-review-university-michigan-sex-abuse-report/4860019002/Just a breathtaking amount of corruption between the school, their police force, and local prosecutors. There are dozens and might be hundreds of victims and the prosecutor is advising the police to keep this out of their official reporting system? And the school is discussing these crimes at football games with the police? Imagine you're a victim reading that, you were assaulted and you read that the prosecutor is telling the officer investigating it to keep all of it off the record, then you read school officials and police were discussing it at football games over a beer.
What is going on at our major universities? Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, and now Michigan. You have so much money and power at these institutions that protecting the brand is more important than protecting young people.
And this Dr. Anderson was a mentor to the infamous Larry Nassar who interned for him at Michigan. Just sick.

(7,529 posts)I worked at a Big 10 university for a long time. It was eye-opening to see how the people there treated the school as if it were sacred, and how upper level officials were just in it for themselves. The one I worked had presidents and chancellors leaving about every two years due to improprities. And it was all just fogotten about. They just don't care. None of these scandals surprise me.

(19,114 posts)Michigan recently had their provost implicated in dozens of complaints that they covered up for years. They hired a known sexually assaulter in their music school.
MSU had Nassar and a few other issues.
It's the same type of corruption you see in government. Everyone is protected.

(7,529 posts)Because the universities or their boards (which are often compliant) do their own "oversight" which usually just amounts to covering up. Where I was the university had every top attorney in town on a retainer so no one else could hire them. Then, as one local attorney told me, they would never, ever settle a lawsuit (except if the media glare was too much) in hopes the plaintiff would either run out of money or die, which often happened.

(19,114 posts)They sat on the accusations until they felt like calling the police, then when they called the police they called campus police. Then the police couldn't even get the prosecutors office to review the case for 9 months.
The victims have zero chance of getting justice there.

(19,114 posts)Hundreds of victims, several speaking today. Had complaints about this guy for 40 years. Did nothing about it and this doctor molested women and children too.
A wrestler reported abuse in the 70s and the coach and legendary athletic director Don Canham destroyed his life. Took away his scholarship, his financial aid, and even publicly humiliated him on front of the team. They even tried to get his roommates to move out.
Also, an Olympic wrestler spoke, he was molested in 2002 at Michigan, this stuff concinued for 40 years with complaint after complaint and this doctor still treated young athletes, and was farmed out to high schools to give physicals to high school students. He also gave exams to women, one woman was sent to him for a pre job exam and he fondled her breasts, gave her a vaginal exam, and a rectal exam, for an office job... SICK!
