(33,346 posts)5. That movie gave me a glimpse of another NASA ...
I had envisioned NASA as a scientific utopia when I was young, and didn't question that view near enough later. The movie let me see that it was not an island of merit in the sea of prejudice and discrimination. It also let me see there were pioneers on the ground pushing the envelope in all kinds of ways I didn't see as a youngster.

The good thing about growing up outside of the US or UK is that we grew up with the best and brightest among people looking like us. And we all had relatives who excelled overseas as well.
