Britain's new passport was designed in France and made in Poland
a moment of great post-Brexit pride, the UK government has unveiled the countrys new, non-EU passport. It will be dark blue, as it was before 1988, when it was changed to burgundy to align with the rest of the (then) European Economic Community (now European Union) design.
The document, said home secretary Priti Patel, is once again be entwined with our national identity. Going back to blue, the UK joins a majority of countries (81) with a blue passport.
The design unveiled yesterday recalls the one the British empire introduced in 1921: It reads British Passport on the top, has the countrys coat of arms at the center, and underneath spells United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
At the time of the Empire, a similar passport noted British Passport above the coat of arms, then listed the territory the passport was issued in: for instance India, Kenya, or indeed the UK.
