So lets extrapolate. That means, of course, he can pardon anyone he wants, for any reason or no reason at all. That buy definition he is alleging he has virtual kingly or dictatorial powers.
So be it. Then when he is out of office the next president can, and should, reverse all of trumps pardons and commutations. Lock them all back up. Kings can do that ya know.

That isn't a kingly power; it's a fail-safe - that can be used (for example) when the mandatory minimum drug sentencing laws had embedded racism - and the minority population grew (and had longer sentences) than the white population - for equivalent drug use. Or to ensure that an innocent person is not executed - since once the procedural due process has been granted it is not unconstitutional to execute an innocent person.
Trump is abusing it - but the fact that trump is abusing it does not make it kingly or dictatorial.
