A national security official I know and trust pushes back on the way the briefing/ODNI story is being told, and others with firsthand knowledge agree with his assessment.

3/ The problem is Shelby" -- Pierson, the elections threats executive in the intelligence community -- "said they developed a preference for Trump. A more reasonable interpretation of the intelligence is not that they have a preference, it's a step short of that....

4/ It's more that they understand the president is someone they can work with, he's a dealmaker. But not that they prefer him over Sanders or Buttigieg or anyone else. So it may have been mischaracterized by Shelby" at the House Intel briefing last week...

Then theres the matter of the tense meeting between President Trump and erstwhile Acting Director of National Intelligence Admiral Maguire...

6/ The President was upset that he had to hear about an intelligence conclusion from a Member of the House Republicans rather than from the intelligence community. So he was out of joint with Maguire on that process."

7/ None of this disputes that Trump desires to replace those who have Intel expertise with partisan loyalists, or dismisses the larger issues and concerns about Russia and how the president seeks help from abroad.
Just that there seems to be more to this particular story.

Of course the Russians prefer Trump. America is divided and turned inwards.
Care to bet on Russia annexing the rest of Ukraine on the cusp of the US elections?

Sounds like someone is feeding you a line Jake. With all the lies coming from every corner of this administration it's a bit gullible to share without further investigation.

(13,571 posts)Tapper is being spun by someone.
That sounds as if was written by Trump himself.
"He's a deal maker we can work with"
Straight from Trump's own addled mind, I'd wager.

(82,849 posts)What's the functional difference between "Russia is interfering with our election to Trump's benefit" and "Russia wants Trump to win again"? You sound particularly gullible saying that it's just some fantastic coincidence that Russia's tampering happens to benefit Trump, but that Russia doesn't necessarily prefer Trump.

(13,571 posts)Why wouldn't he just take it under advisement and then wait and see what plays out?
This is really strange.

(7,968 posts)The only time he acts full progressive is when it's so obvious there's no other option. I've seen him treat Democratic guests very dismissively and let Pukes slide.
