(7,544 posts)Dems have been taking it in the kiester since Iran-Contra (sorry for the off color phrase, but that's what it is). Every GOP administration since then has refused to play by the rules or even to obey the law. It's time for some retribution, if only for the benefit of future generations.
That's one of many reasons I support Warren for the nomination.

(11,087 posts)William W. Belknap, Secretary of War under President Grant was impeached in 1876. He resigned before the House could vote on impeachment, but they impeached him anyway, prompting an argument over whether the Senate could try him after he had already resigned his post. They did try him, and the Senate voted 35-25 to convict him (only 60 Senators back then), which fell short of the 2/3 needed. (Several of the Senators voted to acquit, not because they thought he was innocent, but because they felt the Senate no longer had jurisdiction after the resignation.) So, technically, he was acquitted.
George Armstrong Custer was one of the witnesses against Belknap. His testimony took place about 11 weeks before the Battle of the Little Bighorn.

(649 posts)Congresswoman Waters, unlike some of our candidates for the Democratic nomination, recognizes that we are at war for our democracy, that you cant reach across the aisle, that the legislators on the other side arent our opponents, they are the enemy and they want to destroy us and everything we believe in.
We need more outspoken, take no prisoners men and women like Maxine Waters. Were getting there. Slowly but surely more and more of our legislators and other public servants are speaking out in no uncertain terms about the lies and treasonous behavior of those who would destroy our democracy and rip our freedoms from us.
Waters, Nadler, Schiff, Pelosi, Warren. These and others are doing all they can to preserve our country. We must hold the House and take the WH and the Senate and restore sanity and dignity to our government. And when the dust settles, criminals like Trump and Barr must be held accountable. Any candidate for president who wants to look forward without prosecuting those who have committed criminal criminal acts does not get my support in the primaries.
