GOP leader claims Trump prefers hanging out with workers over the wealthy

By Josh Israel -February 18, 2020 11:48 AM

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy absurdly suggested that Donald Trump mostly avoids rich people.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy claimed on Monday that Donald Trump much prefers to hang out with blue-collar workers over wealthy people.

In a Fox News segment on the "elitist left," McCarthy (R-CA) attempted to present Trump as someone who would rather interact with ordinary people than rich elites.

"If you ever go on a project with him, where he's building a building, he is more in contact with those who are building it than who's buying it. That's the uniqueness about him," he said. "He'd rather hang out with everyone who builds the building than whoever buys the room from him."

Just days before, Trump had held a $580,600-per-couple campaign fundraising event with some of his richest friends.

6. Maybe that's because he thinks they're most easily impressed?

Most likely to buy his bullshit without question, perhaps? And therefore, most easily fleeced.

11. of course! he can boss around and insult the people he thinks don't matter

and he can completely ignore anything negative they say.

it's a freeroll interacting with people like that. on the upside, he gets to assert his dominance, get his way, act all superior, have people fawn over him, etc.
on the downside, if he doesn't get his way or people don't praise him enough or even insult him, well they're all just "little people" he doesn't give a crap about so it doesn't matter at all.

so all upside, no real downside.

but dealing with rich people is much scarier for poor donnie! he cares about their praise, he wants to be admired and accepted by the rich and powerful.

that's where there *is* a downside for donnie, because their *insults* or insufficient praise and deference actually hurts his delicate fee-fees.

so, yeah, i agree. he enjoys dealing with blue collar people better.

of course, that doesn't mean anyone enjoys "hanging out" with donnie....

and say the same thing. He’d get his ass handed to him.

I do think McCarthy’s statement could be used effectively in a snarky anti-Trump ad.
