Will Trump be the first ex-president to go to prison?

There are many ongoing investigations of him by the Southern District of New York, and by New York State too, among others. We're talking about investigations of things like money-laundering, state and federal tax evasion, bank fraud, conspiring with a foreign government to help him become president, and so many other crimes that appeared in the Mueller report (which concluded that a sitting president could not be indicted for his crimes).

So once he's dragged kicking and screaming from the White House, and charges are pursued against him and he's found guilty, will he go to jail? (He can't be pardoned if found guilty of state crimes.)

Democrats fear that setting the precedent of jailing an ex-prez will jeopardize every Democratic president whenever Republicans regain control of the senate and house. Why worry? This is something the Republicans will do regardless of precedents. They don't play nice, never have, and never will. They have tried to destroy every Democratic president since FDR. Look at Clinton. They tried to nail him over a BJ. The Republican wet dream was to jail Obama for the crime of being black.

Nonetheless, if our next president is a Democrat, the party will have nothing to say about it. This is a judicial matter and once a stable justice system is restored, it will be up to the courts as to what happens to him.

I'm sure that most of us would like to see him in a dungeon for life with (pick his cellmate).

But first things first. He must, MUST, be defeated and stopped from stealing the election (again). More easily said than done. While Dems are fighting among themselves, who knows what behind the scenes crap he's pulling to rig the November election? And given the help of the criminal Republican Party and Russia, among others, we must have the most massive Democratic turnout in history. Then, and only then, he can be dragged kicking and screaming from the White House. The alternative is too horrible to think about.

He’s been in court most of his life and never been imprisoned. It’s one thing he’s very good at, escaping justice. He’ll probably be able to keep things in the court until he dies.

Like obstruction of justice?

In addition to whatever SDNY digs up?

And maybe for ripping off the taxpayers by charging $650 for rooms for the Secret Service detail? Etc.

and openly encouraging the theft of our elections by outside players. He'll go and be pardoned by Pence, before all of the heat comes down, and run away like he does every single time in the past. The only reason he settled the lawsuit against rump university was that he just won the presidential office and wanted to have a clean slate for his next series of grifting the federal government out of millions, if not billions for stupid and ineffective projects (the 'wall' is one clear example). Pence isn't re-electable by any means, and thus will be a place holder for the next repug person to run for office, perhaps Jr.? It's sad but it's happened before (Nixon and Ford pardoning him). They'll say its for the good of the Country, yeah, sure...

no president can pardon him. State crimes can only be pardoned by the governor of that state. Can you imagine him getting a pardon in NY or Virginia? He's under investigation in both states (and perhaps others that we don't know about).

knows what will happen in the future, when others come into office and remember how easily he got away with this crap? Some teeth needs to be added to enforce the existing emoluments laws/clauses in the constitution (because rump is doing circles around this constantly, with his place in FL and other dog and pony shows at his properties (Scotland). All about rump, and not the Country, not trying to showcase perhaps special attractions in each part of the Country, it's all about rump and money.

New York State has the goods on him for things unrelated to the presidency, e.g. money-laundering, tax evasion, real estate irregularities, misuse of charitable donations etc. They can send him to state prison in Ossining or elsewhere. It would be a great day for ALL Americans if/when that happens.

I'm sure he's got a plan for how to evade justice, with enough money put aside for it. He'd then expect his children to keep him in the luxury he demands, wherever he ends up (eg Russia, or Saudi Arabia). Hopefully, they'd turn on him, but I think Jr and Eric are too dumb to. And he'll have hired enough accountants and lawyers to make sure there's plenty of money stashed where American courts will find it difficult to freeze it.

And his lawyers can fall back on a claim of mental incompetence, once he's out of power. That will make sure he gets bail.

I doubt if he'd be treated well in either place. No more gold toilets. The Saudis would give him a tent in the desert and the Russians would give him an igloo in Siberia.

Maybe some neo-Nazi compound would try to grant him sanctuary.

But this is all speculation. The creature will O.D. on Big Macs before he gets to flee anywhere but the local McDonald's.
