Most Voters Identify as Center-Right

Gallup: “As Americans continued to lean more Democratic than Republican in their party preferences in 2019, the ideological balance of the country remained center-right, with 37% of Americans, on average, identifying as conservative during the year, 35% as moderate and 24% as liberal.”

These terms are getting bent all out of shape, because nobody really bothers to be specific.

I'm socially and politically liberal, fiscally a bit conservative, financially progressive...

You can’t be socially liberal and fiscally conservative can you? If you want social programs they need to be funded.

It collects the requisite amount of taxes to cover the budget and spends the money conscientiously. What the money gets spent on is about politics, in which lane I am progressive. Social safety nets fit well within the realm of fiscal responsibility, since in most cases socializing things like medical care ends up being cheaper and more efficient that the alternatives we use.

That doesn't mandate a 'balanced budget,' but it does mean we should contain deficit spending intelligently.

They just get tossed around and used as weapons. Meanwhile there are subte differences in how individuals apply them to their own stances.

I'm sure that some people in the US love the polling results Gallup comes up with based on who they decide to talk to and how many, but I don't think they're reliable.

conservative stance, most people will side with the liberal stance. And the more educated they become about the issue, the more likely they are to take the liberal stance. But it’s important to keep labels out of the picture because the conservatives have done a good job of demonizing Democrats and liberals.
