Fight over Trump's impeachment shifts to battle over the impact on Senate races

The Senate’s impeachment trial of President Trump may have ended, but the political fallout will continue for weeks and possibly months to come.
A pair of Democratic super PACs on Friday announced reservations for a several-million-dollar digital ad campaign targeting Republican senators in Arizona, Maine and North Carolina, two days after the trio voted to acquit Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Armed with polling showing voters largely supported an expanded trial, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is trying to raise money for key challengers to Republican incumbents. “We know you’re angry,” the DSCC began its Friday missive.

But Republicans are emerging from the impeachment trial with their own level of confidence. Less than nine months from Election Day, Republicans argue that the national focus on the Senate trial helped galvanize conservative voters around GOP senators while also giving their incumbents lines of attack that they think can make inroads with independent voters.

If "galvanzing conservatives" is all that is needed for them, then we don't deserve a majority Azathoth Feb 2020 #5

That is... in the sense of "shifts"... because that's where it has been all along.

It was never going to result in his removal from office.

are the "cult" followers of trump, and will "always" support him no matter how disgusting he gets.

I think the republicans are living in one of trumps "alternative" worlds! They will find out just how much it is going to hurt them on Election Day. Until then they can keep kissing trump butt and praying he doesn't go after them for some reason!

Bothsiderism BS. 72% of the people will not forget their representatives refusing to represent them and thereby refusing to do their jobs. They will remember in November.

Every goddamn election cycle we get told Democrats are sure to fail because they offended some obscure, nebulous group of centrist Real Americans, but Republicans are looking good because "their base" is "galvanized".

If all Republicans need to win are their base, then by definition their base is more representative of the electorate and they deserve to win.
