National Laughingstock Susan Collins 'Wishes' Witnesses Were Called
The rest of us "wish" she wouldn't have violated her oath of office.
By Joan McCarter
Congratulations, Sen. Susan Collins! You've become a national figure! Unfortunately for you, its as a laughingstock. First she appeared in a Saturday Night Live skit and then in a Stephen Colbert monologue, in which he described her as "the senator who has most successfully talked herself into believing that she believes in something."
Proving Colberts point, Collins went on WMTW, Portland's ABC affiliate, to say she "did what I felt was right" in her votes in the impeachment trial of Donald Trump, and that this was an even more consequential vote than the one on putting Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court because "removing a president from office" is "overturning an election and preventing the president from appearing in the ballot this fall." About this fall, and if she'll vote for Trump this time around? "You know, I'm not going to discuss presidential politics at a time like this." A time like this being before the filing deadline for Maine's primary. She already made her decision clear, however, in the only vote that really countson Trumps impeachment.
She's still trying to convince Mainers that she'll vote to "curb the president's powers." She left out the part about needing to have Mitch McConnell's permission to cast those votes. She also said that she would disapprove of retribution by Trump against anyone who testified. She will tell every reporter she can talk to that she is very concerned when Trump fires Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman from the National Security Council after he testified in House impeachment hearings, or when Attorney General Bill Barr starts investigating House Democratic leadership.
She told Maine reporters after a Friday meeting of the Maine Chiefs of Police Association that she wished there had been witnesses in the Senate trial, proving that her wishes are about as effective as her hopes.

(18,770 posts)That parody, which was *not* flattering, was on EVERY news program last Monday morning.
If she wins in Nov, it will be due to massive hacking of the ME vote because I just don't see how else she survives this.

Mainers are not dummies* and do not brook political BS. How has Collins skated for so long?
*family had a summer house and we spent a lot of time up there.

Um... so far, it appears to be - um - a lot of Maine voters.
Im sorry to have to say that. Even sorrier that I cant come to any other conclusion.

(10,419 posts)The Mainers I knew were pretty much "Hi! C'mon in. Want a tonic?" sort of people I would never think would put up with a grifter like Collins. I would'a thunk they'd spot her conniving butt a mile away.
OK Mainers -time to man/woman up and kick this creepy opportunist to the curb.
Yeesh - she annoys the hell out of me.

(24,438 posts)why is Impeachment even in the Constitution? And why did they even bother with Impeaching Bill Clinton in the 1990's because he couldn't even have run again?
*Note: Rhetorical questions. I think that we all know the answers

(6,569 posts)We have to get rid of Moscow Mitch. So, we have to support his challenger, Amy McGrath.
We have to hold the House and take back the Senate. That means a humongous campaign for "Vote Blue" as well as "GOTV." Getting control of both halves is crucial.
And of course, vote for whomever the Dems elect to run against this Dictator. It's our responsibility to help one another get there. We have to stick together and not let the Orange Asshole divide us, and not listen to the Russian propaganda
We have to stock up with whatever we need to shelter in place.
Buy walking shoes and plan to march. If you can't, support marchers in some way.
Keep everyone informed of everything you see and hear. We have filters; we can handle it.
If we fail and Trump is reelected, we will enter a long, dark period.
