57. It's very hard to "fire" a career civil servant

In my quarter century of civil service, I saw it done exactly once and that was only because the employee simply didn't care about meeting the conditions put on to keep being employed.

In the case of these WH employees, most are career employees of other departments who are detailed there. I don't know how these details work, maybe they are open-ended, but the ones I know have a start and end date and require renewal after a specific interval like 90 or 120 days.

The details may be ended early, but these careerists are not being "fired".
