BREAKING: Chinese doctor Li Wenliang died Thursday night after contracting the coronavirus at his workplace, Wuhan Central Hospital. He became a national hero and a symbol of the Chinese government's failings after friends reported that he sought to sound warnings about the new coronavirus on Dec. 30.
This is a developing story. It will be updated.
Ten more people tested positive for coronavirus on the quarantined Diamond Princess cruise liner anchored in Japans Yokohama harbor on Thursday, raising the total of infected on the ship to 20, including three Americans.
Coronavirus infections in mainland China also rose sharply again, with nearly 3,700 additional cases and 73 new deaths reported on Wednesday alone, authorities said Thursday morning. Chinas total confirmed cases top 28,000, more than 3,800 of them critical.
The increase continues a trend of daily jumps in confirmed cases. China has reported more than 560 coronavirus deaths, including one in Hong Kong, and one person has died in the Philippines.

(18,770 posts)2. I really don't like when I'm reading on twitter
I'm very careful to cross-check info gathered there. What I'm reading is China has no handle on this and that it's now being spread person-to-person in HK (vs being imported from the mainland).

(14,961 posts)3. Did you see where his pregnant wife is in critical care with the
virus?😔😭
