His vote today was not the first born of courage and honor. His are votes that could cost him his seat and yetnhe does it. A stand-up guy, for sure.

(11,936 posts)I grew up there and still have ties to the state. I know whats going on back home. And the last time I checked, his biggest approval rating is in WV above the other 49 states.
And trust me, there are some serious crazies around there.

(86,646 posts)and he was not going to worry about what his vote was. He said there are people who don't agree but there are also a lot of constituents who do agree with his vote. He said he'll talk about it if they want to but he'll provide them with a legal justification. I thought that was a great response.

(2,596 posts)Well before the Age of tRump, Doug Jones was cutting his teeth on lawless hooligans in Alabama. He successfully prosecuted and convicted the KKKers who blew up churches and killed children (and others) in bombings there in the sixties. I'm sure he'll be in personal physical danger - as will his family. But those dangers have been faced previously, and he's got the moral backbone and courage to weather what comes, knowing that such decisions may lead to paying the ultimate price.

(33,525 posts)...politics there are many people of high integrity in Alabama.
One of my favorite posters on this website is, in fact, from Alabama.
Perhaps they will band together, recognize the moral bankruptcy of the Republican politics, and re-elect Senator Jones.
You know you can fool all of the people some of the time...
A voter with serious values as opposed to one with rote values may get it.
After all, Romney's vote involved his faith.

(21,132 posts)I expected him to do the right thing. So did the people that voted for him. I am not sure who voted for him that thinks Trump is so awesome that this will cause any notable losses. I suspect they would have been for Sessions anyway.
Don't get me wrong. Kudos to him. I just don't understand why it took courage.

(68,584 posts)We need the senate. And our opportunities are few...mostly in red or purple states. I am proud that he is a decent guy, but damn we needed that seat. I don't know that money will make much difference. But i will donate also. He might have lost anyway I suppose. At this point we can hope, but Alabama is solidly behind Trump. So it looks pretty bleak. I have to wonder what with the tough votes our moderate house members and senators took, was impeachment withot conviction worth it? Sure Trump had it coming ...but I hope it doesnt help him in the election.
