Rob Portman's Hypocrisy

The NYT printed a front page article today written by Spineless Rob today, defending his position to vote to acquit.

Spineless Rob has a very short memory.

Spineless Rob is an absolute disgrace.

Here's the 1998 press statement Portman released to announce he'd vote to impeach Clinton:
"...Unfortunately, the President’s actions have forced Congress to take the extraordinary step of considering articles of impeachment...."

"...I have concluded that President Clinton has committed serious offenses that merit impeachment by the United States House of Representatives. Committing perjury, obstructing justice and abusing the power of the Presidency violate the rule of law that all citizens - even the President - must obey..."

"I am also concerned because the President - by the very nature of his office - has a special responsibility to set an example. At a minimum, there cannot be one standard for the President and another for the citizens he serves. This past summer, I called on President Clinton to resign. I did so because I believed it was the right thing to do for the country in order to maintain the honor and dignity of the Office of the Presidency and to spare the country from going through a long, divisive and distracting impeachment process. The President and his advisers have continuously signaled that he has no intention of stepping aside. Thus, we find ourselves at this difficult crossroads. We are a nation of laws and, as a Member of Congress, I have a sworn duty to uphold the Constitution and the rule of law. I must vote to impeach"

President Obama appointed him ambassador to China. Speaks the language, is intelligent, etc. The problem? Like all republicans - yes, every single one - he lacks a spine, ethics, integrity, humanity, decency. And that damaged soul always emerges.

I was thinking about this last night. About the next Democratic president, next January, terminates the employment of every Schedule C and any other trump appointee, from gs nothing to the highest levels of government. Every cabinet secretary, every assistant secretary or deputy secretary - every republican that required Senate approval. The Joint Chiefs. To the extent legal and feasible, the termination of contracts with all trump cronies. All bogus FEMA contracts and other such issues that are often ignored until we learn that there's been corruption.

Of course, the next Democratic president must be ready to go with a "binder full" of appointees of the highest caliber and who have been vetted and interviewed and named and/or approved by the president-elect. On day one. From Day two onward, appointments of Schedule C appointees.

And on and on.

Not a single republican can be trusted to demonstrate any integrity or decency or humanity.
