(4,079 posts)He's in a tough spot, but he has so much more integrity than my piece of shit senator (Gardner).
When you look at Senator Doug Jones' record, it is hard to imagine him voting any other way. He has been on the side of Justice since he entered public life. He is the kind of man who makes one yearn to be a better, braver person (at least he has that effect on me).
Your senator appears to have made the closet his official address. When did Senator Gardner last deign to speak to his constituents ?
As a Denver native, who still wakes up some mornings homesick for the Colorado Rockies, I hope you all send him home so he can play hide and seek with some kids, instead of his constituents.
Senator Gardner's cowardice is especially galling since he won his seat defeating Mark Udall, a man of integrity.

(82,849 posts)I know, it's like showing a dog a card trick. Collins, Murkowski, Alexander, Romney and the rest of them have no basis for understanding what Jones did, and his outstanding statement explaining his vote to remove might as well have been written in ancient Sanskrit.

(812 posts)... for doing the right and honorable thing. You will be one of the people on the right side of history and someone who put country before his own ambitions. Too bad others can't find the courage to follow your example.

(4,764 posts)I think his courage will put more pressure on Joe Manchin. Jones is up for re-election in a difficult state and Manchin has 4 more years before he faces the voters. We will see.

(25,895 posts)is incomprehensible to me.
I don't care what kind of re-election difficulty the Senator might have.
Likewise, it is incomprehensible that not a single Republican Senator seems to have the integrity to vote to convict.

(1,968 posts)Probably not, he's a coward.
Even Mittens will be voting to convict.

(7,428 posts)For all practical purposes, the GOP is the white party and the Democratic Party is the black party. Sure, there are exceptions but those general rules still apply.
Many women who might have abstained from voting or voted for Jones against Roy Moore will not do so this time around. Of the leading GOP candidates, none have the baggage Moore carries.

(919 posts)He, as well as Romney, voted to allow witnesses! Please do not forget Doug Jones! Even if it's just a small amount, he's in Alabama and could use all the help he can receive. I just donated from Boston. Keeping the House and acquiring the Senate is the key right now. The orange ape (my apologies to apes) will probably be re-elected. The House and Senate are our only hope.
