Democracy has not been in such peril since Dunkirk

America was not a fighting force early in World War II. Pacifists and America Firsters were determined to keep us out of another European war. All seemed well during the Phony War. But when British forces were trapped and forced to salvage their entire army on an improvised flotilla of ships and private boats from Dunkirk, democracy itself was indeed on the ropes.

We face no less perilous a situation today. Friendly fascism has been sold as a solution to immigration and economic growth while election interference makes it difficult to respect a poll let alone election results. But take heart, DUers.

Trump's acquittal will dominate headlines for the rest of the week if not the year. But it is perhaps best this way. For if he had been convicted there would be repercussions that would give President Pence an opening, stall the momentum of investigations, and cause the public a giant exhalation of relief. Jujitsu to resolve to defend and protect the rule of law.

Instead we have acquittal, and in this process Senate Republicans, House Republicans, perhaps even most of the non-Amash suited masses of the party, are bound and chained to the corpulent rotting carcass of unchristian corruption and denigration of distinctly American political, social, and cultural values.

We have one chance to drive this train. So let's dig deep, stiffen our resolve, tighten the belt on our man pants and pull them up tight. Extra hours, extra effort, all out determination to salvage our civilization from now until election day. We must load the cargo bays all the way to the caboose - and drive it over the cliff in one fell swoop of smoldering implosion - all while abandoning the engineer's seat at the last minute. Think hard, think often, think while you sleep, innovate, do everything you can - DO YOUR PART!
