I just check into a customer for whom I am delivering to! The guy who checked me in was very nice and I didn’t have a problem with him at all. But a guy in line was getting frustrated because it took awhile to check me in. There was an issue with some minor paperwork. As I turned to leave the window, the same guy in line yelled “hurry up you f’ing spick”. I was about to say that was uncalled for, but other drivers told him to shut up! He start to say something about Trump, again he was told to shut up! By this time the general manager came out and told the the man to leave. He looked around and stormed out! Just ridiculous way to try to start something & in the end he was f’ing idiot!

But you should have seen what I went through as a woman back in the 70s and 80s which included sabotage to my vehicle a number of times cutting hoses and belts, slashing tires and pulling the lock of the 5th wheel along with the verbal taunts. It wasn't pretty. I was often propositioned for sex and told I should be home making babies... by dock foremen.

Once they saw me back the trailer in and start hefting the freight, they'd shut up, some of them. What really killed them was when I would throw freight in a skirt after backing my shiny rig into the door and no guys showed up to handle the business on the dock 'cuz I was alone.

Sorry, one guy being stupid verbally is small potatoes. I hope the rest of your day goes well and you don't have too much bad roads when this snow storm gets where you are.

36. I was able to pull it off for 15 years...

I educated a bunch of drivers that way and I could back it in better than most as well. I had good instructors when I was learning. But I also ran the business end rather well too and I threw my own freight most of the time which really made everyone get quiet while I was showing them that I could do the job better than they could, and in a skirt.

It wasn't all male drivers who were like that, many were very respectful too. Waitresses in truck stops would often assume that I was working the parking lot outside and would act as though they couldn't see me at the table in the drivers' section of the restaurant. The guys would start looking at me. So I would just look at them and ask, "What? Am I invisible?" And someone would always say, "Nope, I can see you." Then I'd ask, "Well how come she can't?" At which point they'd get on the waitress' case and she'd begrudgingly come over and take my order.

It was always a thing back then, I had to deal with it nearly every day and I pretty much became something like a stand up comedian with all the responses I learned to give in order to direct the conversation to higher ground or outright put someone in their place for being an asshole. There was at least one a day.

The only thing I miss nowadays is once in a while I'd like to get behind the wheel and take a couple hundred mile spin just because I like to drive them, I just don't want to make it a job anymore. Glad I'm retired from the workforce entirely now, too old and worn out to get really into the physical demands.

50. It's all about time. If you have an event

that takes up time by keeping you from rolling down the road, you're losing $$. If you own your rig, something like that can sink you, and that's what they were trying to do. I also had nice vehicles and a lot of the time I went really fast so if I had a flat or something, I could still make up the time by kicking in the afterburners. And they usually got told on by somebody who saw them so I would actually catch and sue them, happened three times.

It was a totally different culture rolling around the country 24/7/365. There were good things to learn and experience, I got to see the whole country where the roads are. And I had the ability to be all alone out in the middle of nowhere. It was a very different life. Now I'm retired and still not liking the way things are in this place people tell me is normal...

58. I was a Receiver for 20+ years

I would have told the guy to leave at the minute he spouted off. Then he could explain to his boss why he was returning with the load on the back of his truck. He definitely failed the attitude test.

I worked hard to get my drivers in and out as quickly as possible every day but there were times that everyone showed up at once and they had to be patient. Most we on overlapping routes and knew each other so they would work together to help each other as they could get through the day.

There was one day we had a substitute driver for a chip company delivering and he was ogling a beverage merchandiser who was stacking a pallet of Pepsi while she was bending over. He made the mistake of commenting to me that, “she has a great a##.” I responded, looking over the top of my glasses, that she is a hard worker and I consider all the young ladies working back here just as I would my daughter, as I handed him his paperwork and told him it was time to leave now.

I wouldn’t allow anyone to be disrespected in my back room if I could help it.
