Senators admitting pressure on Ukraine was wrong

Jacob Rosenberg

... Alexander .. on Meet The Press .. said .. Trump’s actions in the Ukraine scandal were “improper“ ...

When .. Todd asked if Trump would be emboldened ... because of the lack of consequences, Alexander said he “hoped not” ...

... somber scolding without action has become the talking point for other Republicans ...

... Ernst .. said .. Trump dealt with Ukraine “maybe in the wrong manner” ... Portman said .. it was “wrong” and “inappropriate” to ask another country’s leader to dig up dirt on a political opponent ... Rubio .. said .. Trump’s action were impeachable — but that he shouldn’t be removed from his office. about this mess. Their primary problem now is uncertainty as to what's going to be revealed in the coming months. They can't go against Trump now because of the furor on their right, but if and when the full documentation comes out their center and moderate support may completely collapse if they pledge "no wrong doing" now. The compromise position is what they're doing: "Yes, this was wrong, but..." It has the benefit of keeping them on the right side of the Trump cult members, while giving them a "Yes, we all knew and said it was improper" when the other thirty shoes drop.
