(6,477 posts)about this mess. Their primary problem now is uncertainty as to what's going to be revealed in the coming months. They can't go against Trump now because of the furor on their right, but if and when the full documentation comes out their center and moderate support may completely collapse if they pledge "no wrong doing" now. The compromise position is what they're doing: "Yes, this was wrong, but..." It has the benefit of keeping them on the right side of the Trump cult members, while giving them a "Yes, we all knew and said it was improper" when the other thirty shoes drop.
