John Roberts, you presided over the childbirth of the American Tyrant

A towering patriot would know that witnesses or subpoenas are an essential part of a trial.
You’ll be a footnote in the story of what destroyed American idealism.

“CJ Roberts presided, and there was some question regarding whether he had any authority to do this or that...”

These are the times that try men’s souls. You closed your eyes to what was right in front of you. “I don’t make the rules,” you’ll say. Could you have dared to test any of them? Could you have suggested the recusal of Moscow Mitch, or issued subpoenas? Perhaps a majority vote would have overruled you, or perhaps not. You could have used your eloquent voice to point out the need for the truth to be made known, or to point out that the instance of 21 senators leaving en masse was contempt of court or a violation of their oath. But you did not lift a finger to indicate that you were witnessing a sham.

There’s a dark, dark downfall ahead for America.

Today I doubt whether there will be any more chances for a better destiny. Too much of what is happening now sounds like echoes of other great powers that lost their way. This impeachment trial will be a major signpost preceding two decades of suffering for the US and many others.

1. Did he not foresee the consequences of citizen's united?

Does he not appreciate the magnitude of the threat to the constitution? Maybe he's just not that smart.

Someone of great weight has to step up. Yesterday alone, bombshells from Parnas and Bolton seem largely ignored, but verify threatening quid pro quo starting in May, not only involving Lindsey Graham, Devin Nunes and Rick Perry, but also attorney John Cipollone. Seriously, WTF????

3. Roberts Was Also The Deciding Vote On Citizens United

That decision accelerated events that culminated yesterday so Roberts was there for both the take-off and the landing. This is the Roberts legacy and it is one of the worst in our history and he seems oblivious to it all.

When someone shows you who they are... Stealing elections has become the Republican m o. The Trump debacle hasn't happened in a vacuum.

8. Roberts was appointed by Bush. Wasn't on the Court in 2000

There is quite a lot for which we may blame Roberts. Bush is not one of those things.

5. A portrait of a coward. Roberts will be remembered as a failure as CJ. America was built on many

strong and principled CJ and Justices who took bold positions to shape America. How Roberts sat there and listened to lies all day is beyond me. Many Federal Judges are known as behemoths not to be trifled with. Roberts, like the cowards all Republicans are, just sat meekly by as he watched the republicans ripped apart the constitution and the law with absurd arguments. As a trial lawyer, I would dare not make such ludicrous arguments in court. As the representative and arbiter of the Constitution, Roberts sat silent as the fabric of our legal system and Constitutional order was ripped to shreds. We are now officially a banana republic.

Trumpism is the bastard child of the Opus Dei Court, and the Prosperity Gospel party.

The destruction of democracy and the rule of law is being midwifed by Christo-Fascists. Their numbers are declining, but not their influence.

We need progressive Christians to step up to the plate to help their dumber brethren understand the hell they are creating on earth.

12. He was constitutionally required to preside over a fair and impartial trial. His presence

Countenanced that the constitution was not being respected. He knew going in that it was not impartial and that witnesses and evidence were being withheld from the start. He had more power than he even tried to use. Instead the chief justice allowed his office to sanctify a totally irregular procedure. What he has learned by now, that Graham and Cippilone, at the least, were compromised, should allow the prosecution to request a mistrial.
