(8,264 posts)This is the first time in over 50 years that CDC has issued a quarantine order. While we understand this action may seem drastic, our goal today, tomorrow, and always continues to be the safety of the American public. We would rather be remembered for overreacting than underreacting. I want to reiterate that everyone does have a role to play as we work together to contain the spread of this virus. Stay informed. CDC is updating its website daily with the latest information and advice for the public. Remember to take everyday preventive actions that are always recommended to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses. We do not currently recommend the use of face masks for the general American public. This virus is not spreading in your communities.

There is a pretty big statistical difference between a steep line growth and exponential growth. You should not confuse the two, they are different beasts.
On an equivalent basis, the flu strains affecting the USA would sickened at least 500,000 people among the 50 million that are isolated in China. The flu rate is much closer to being exponential since it infects around 15,000 people PER day (a substantial change in Y value for a small change in the X value - a logrithmic chart would be required to linerize the relationship, the marker for an exponential relationship between two pieces of data).

(31,261 posts)I can see why people are afraid of Wuhan Coronavirus, it is something new and still relatively unknown. But there is something that is much more hazardous to them among them now, when I debate people that is the message.
My state of Florida for the flu so far is in the low risk category of states, our infection rate, for some reason, is lower than all states not in that category. Florida Men and Florida Women send the rest of y'all our condolences.
