He’ll turn on you too boys
Published by digby on January 31, 2020

Never-Trumper Rick Wilson has a warning for Republicans, via twitter:

Every Republican senator needs to know some key, invariable facts:

The moment they vote to deny witnesses, they seal their own political fate.

The blow won’t just come from the Democrats or from outside groups.

It will come from Trump himself. Because the moment you deny witnesses, Trump will know his exoneration is inevitable.

And he will start bragging about it.

He will start talking about it. He will tweet about it.

And then as the evidence emerges in dribs and drabs, and as the facts you covered up become public, you own them.

You’re on the whole story.

He’ll laugh and let you all burn to the ground.

He’ll let you take the political damage, absorb all the radiation, and to lose more seats.

More importantly, like any criminal who forces someone to become an accomplice, he’ll know that you’re morally weak and mentally unable to ever resist him.

He’s an abuser, the Ike Turner of presidents, and no matter how many times you beg he still going to knock you around.

Finally, a favorite trope in advertising is — rightly — the “X cast the deciding vote.”

Y’all are looking at 3 votes for witnesses, tops.

You’re the deciding vote.

Wilson knows how Republicans think. He was one of the most vicious practitioners of the party’s dark arts for years.

He is right. Trump is the one who will stab them all in the back.

But for now, this is a classic case of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." Though the alliance may be for the short term only, in a battle for the fate of our country like this, take your allies where you can. But never forget what and who they are. First and foremost, the trumpenfuehrer needs to be neutered. Deal with the consequences once the potentially fatal threat is gone. Distasteful as that ally might be, focus on the immediate threat. Given the current "hear no evil, see no evil" whitewash, and what the jerk's vengeful response might be now that he's been "exonerated" by said "hear no evil, see no evil" Senate whitewash, we need all the help we can get.

New facts come to light? The winds change? Tough shit! Your loyalty to Trump must be absolute and full-throated. You must not only agree with him, you must break new ground in singing his praises, and even then, you are not safe. Remember who matters here. Hint: it isn’t you.

Of doing just that.
He always turns on people.
If they ever get up the courage to say "No" they are history, dead to him.

The truth will come out. And the Republican party will never get rid of the stench of the Trump presidency.

So long as Republicans hold one house of Congress, Trump is immune from any consequences no matter what he does. He can set up an unofficial government headed by Rudy Giuliani to extort leaders of other nations. OK. He can hide or destroy every document that attests to his actions. Republicans say that’s okay too. He can forbid the publishing of Bolton’s book. That’s ok. He can declare that the press is the enemy of the people and must be shut down. That’s okay because whatever he does to win re-election is now legal and okay.

Trump has the DOJ acting as his personal defense team, not the people. He has the Senate (Republicans only) acting as his staff who clear the way for whatever insane or illegal action he wants to take. He has the Supreme Court to rubber stamp his destruction of the country. Thank God for the House! November is the last chance to save our republic.

H/T Thomas Clay Jr.

I am going to make a couple of predictions that are damn near certain to come to pass.

Trump will not participate in any debate. He has too many crimes that can be pointed to and he cannot stop lying about everything. GDP growth is 2.3% as of today and that's worse than Jimmy Carter's yet Trump cannot stop saying the greatest economy in the history of all countries combined. He is a coward and a debate will only humiliate him. He will blame the media or whatever but he will not participate in any debate.

It is important to realize and understand that what Republicans are doing today is abandoning our most hallowed principle this country was founded upon, the rule of law. They are tearing up the constitution in service to the tyrant. They are abandoning democracy today. Do you think they are going to defend it when Trump cancels the November election? Because that's what's on the menu next. He can do anything he wants. He said so out loud and on tape. He can use our money to corrupt foreign governments into starting investigations into his political opponents and Republicans have told him that it is okay with them.

When he takes the next step and cancels the elections or declares martial law, are Republicans going to stand up to him then when he has admitted to committing felonies and they acquit him? They have shown everyone that they believe in party over country. They serve Trump even when he is committing felonies openly.

They are not loyal stewards of our country, they are traitors to the very principles this country was founded upon. They must be removed from office at *ALL* costs because bloodshed is the next step of every authoritarian menace in world history.

Trumpy would turn on the entirety of the American People if his nose got sufficiently bent out of joint.

Never once did he miss a Trump circle jerk, but when he attempted a little independence of his own (because he isn’t fairing that well in his district polls), Trump throws him out the door. Trump cares not for your districts concerns buddy, it is all about him. Complete loyalty and he will let you sit at the bar Trump International, invite you to play golf, and a Mar-a-lago party from time to time.
