Collins new she could safely vote for witnesses without consequence, and Murkowski is trying to look like an understanding moderate with her "Look, I'm sad and I know it's not fair" shtick while voting against witnesses and evidence.

Neither stood up for Democracy. They are both just as bad as McConnell and the rest of the cabal.

Read Murkowski's quite closely. She has managed to craft an explanation that laments the process, without actually indicating what went wrong or which side she is on.

"I have come to the conclusion that there will be no fair trial in the Senate." Who is responsible for that? Murkowski doesn't say.

"I don’t believe the continuation of this process will change anything." Sadly true.

"It is sad for me to admit that, as an institution, the Congress has failed." Failed how? By pursuing impeachment in the first place, or by failing to consider the evidence in a good-faith way? Murkowski lets the listener fill in the blanks.

It's times like these when the "sensible centrists" end up looking like the most cynical and cowardly of them all.
