That way, there is no tie, and Justice Roberts and the GOP Senate can keep up the pretense that this was an actual trial.
And Susan "concerned" Collins can pretend to be a moderate.

(101 posts)I predict the Senate will acquit Trump WITHOUT calling ANY witnesses.
Those so-called Independent Republicans are just hypocrites posturing for the folks back home; they dont really mean it. Whatever they say is meaningless unless its consistent with their VOTE. How often (if at all) do they vote differently from the Republican Majority? Therein lies truth.
Unfortunately, it appears the Chief Justice, John Roberts, is IN on the Republican fix. He has NOT enforced the rules. Numerous Senators have LEFT THE FLOOR while it is in session and NONE of them have so much as been warned or reprimanded, let alone arrested and jailed. Senator Rand Paul PUBLICLY violated the Whistle-blower law after leaving the Senate floor while it was in session to do it. But there is not a peep from the Chief Justice. Ask yourself WHY?
The Senate could vote to CENSOR Senator Paul. Anyone want to make a bet that will happen?

This was all theatre, with a pre-determined outcome. Ina rare moment of truth telling, McConnell and Graham openly admitted that they would never be impartial Judges.
