New - Trump trial could go into next week, maybe even mid-week. Senators and WH want more time for closing arguments, Iowa caucus on Monday and State of the Union complicating timing. All very fluid right now

Big reason why final acquittal vote may not happen til next week: Each senator is entitled to 15 minutes. Collins and Murkowksi want timeframe similar to Clinton trial, which was three days of deliberations, source says. Dems are warning of amendments if that timeframe not given
Also, the Senate floor will be shut down Tuesday afternoon for a security sweep before the State of the Union.
The White House wants it done by the SOTU, but given the demands of senators to speak, it's unclear whether McConnell can make th

(5,812 posts)I am hoping that he will act out and make a total fool of himself before Congress and the American public.
Blaukraut
(5,693 posts)Let him sulk his way through the SB interview and drown in flop sweat while giving a generic SOTU address that will no doubt be written over the weekend as the plan b speech.

(15,106 posts)I doubt this very seriously. No way The Orange One and Moscow Mitch allow this thing to go beyond today.
I will be happy to eat my words, but I don't think this will happen.

(15,808 posts)Breaking news Bolton says trump told him about his Ukraine drug deal way earlier then has been reported. This will go on forever....news about this I mean.
leftieNanner
(15,106 posts)The NYT is reporting today that Trump directed Bolton to get involved in Rudy's campaign to pressure Ukraine to dig up dirt.
We need SCOTUS to force the release of his tax returns too.

Some of those bones are gonna start falling out of the closet.

(58,785 posts)is huge and a disaster for all the senators who want to vote to block witnesses. I'm feeling dumb because I don't "feel" that last that's obvious to her.
But the NYT published this new bit while the Repubs were in meeting, and word is the fake trial is going to continue probably at least to next Wednesday, after Iowa.
Me.
(35,454 posts)at least he won't have the opportunity to crow at the Super Bowl or walk like a conquering hero into the well of Congress on Tues. Further, it flushes his 10 mil SB ad where he's all set to proclaim, I Won. It doesn't change, so far, the fact that he will be acquitted but it keeps the story in the headlines. So I consider it a win on so many levels. I am also astounded at the weaves and curves this, the fix is in, trial, has taken.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)tonight anyway.
Love that about the Super Bowl ad. I read that Trump and Bloomberg have been dueling over Super Bowl ad buys. Turns out Bloomberg also spent millions buying up google searches for Trump ads so they'll take people to Bloomberg ads.
We're astonished at the blatant fixes and other corruption, all right, and how about John Roberts, who's spent days forced to listen to "arguments" aimed at the most determinedly stupid trumpsters? I keep wondering about any and what effect on him.

(36,470 posts)He wants to use Super Bowl Sunday to chortle and then crow some more at the SOTU.
leftieNanner
(15,106 posts)And I understand that he made a $10 million ad buy for the Super Bowl.

(9,895 posts)Cowardly pieces of shit. The entire GOP is nothing more than low level mafia enforcers for their 0.01% benefactors and Trump, the biggest piece of shit among them.
I wish them all painful, drawn out deaths,,,the kind that drain resources and make loved ones begin the loathe the trips to the ER and long nights of no sleep and eventually just wishing it would end and be over, but then I hope they linger on further in comatose states with other piece of shit GOPers suing to prevent them from being taken off life support. That is my fantasy...rows of brain dead GOP hacks, kept alive against the wishes of their families as a ghoulish monument to this moment in the destruction of the USA.

(11,045 posts)Pushback from GOP Senators. Will not commit to acquit if proceedings wind up before SOTU.
WH wanted this over, so he can take his victory lap to the SOTU.

Could be some sort of political mischief?

(18,770 posts)That throws it to a tie, which McConnell can simply ignore. But doing so puts Roberts into an awkward situation, as he's the presiding officer over what is clear to 80% of Americans as a cover-up.
