Good morning. There are 277 days until the presidential election. Cowardly, complicit and compromised, Senate Republicans prepare a death blow for democracy, Pompeo gets right back to dirty tricks and House Democrats try to rein in Trump on Iran.
Note: Theres no way to sugarcoat this shit. Today is a pretty damn bad day for our nation and our democracy. We were so depressed last night we drove our chevy to the levy, but we forgot that son of a bitch was dry and there were just a bunch of old men there drinking whiskey and rye and frankly we had our fill of drunk old men while watching the U.S. Senate for the past few days. So we just went home, and on our way, we resolved that this nauseating tragedy will not break our spirit. No matter what, we are in this fight. You know why? Because what the fuck else are we gonna do? Quit? Start calling him Mr. President? Bow to McConnell? Start wearing red hats? Start wearing that ugly shit Ivanka makes? Yeah, we dont think so. So well watch today as feeble old men anoint a gameshow host a king simply because theyre too afraid of him to say no, then well take tomorrow off and well enjoy the Super Bowl on Sunday and probably the final episodes of Bojack Horseman and we just found out Netflix picked up all of the Police Academy movies. All of them. And we lost our train of thought. Oh yeah, a weekend of licking our wounds is fine, but weve got work to do. This was already going to be the toughest election of our lifetimes. But now that the Senate and the Chief Justice have joined the president in inviting the worlds worst actors to involve themselves in our democracy, were really gonna have to get after it. Oh well. Bring it, Vlad. Were Americans. Were too dumb to quit. Lets get crazy. Have a good weekend.
Note two: Speaking of the Super Bowl, tough guy real man doesnt seem to know whos playing. Heres Trumps answer when asked who he wants to win: Well, I love them both, lets just say. But I will tell you, some two very interesting teams and interesting players. And its going to be hopefully a great Super Bowl. What a moron. Can you believe theyre flushing our country down the toilet for this asshat?
Note three: Heres an example of the kinds of stuff we were thinking about last night. Since were gonna have a king now, who do you think is the court jester? While you can make a strong case for Lindsey or Devin or Ronna NotRomney, were leaning toward Rand. He just seems made to wear the outfit. Dude was born to have bells on the tips of his pointy shoes and a hat befitting his own ridiculousness. And of course then theres the fact that hes a complete joke and despicable garden gnome of a man.
Note four: Someone please tell the NYT nobody gives a fuck about their kiss-ass profiles of Mittens Romney. Does nobody in this town have one goddamn ounce of self-respect?!
Treason
The suspense -- and our democracy -- ended last night when Tennessee chickenshit Lamar Alexander announced he would vote against hearing from witnesses. Lamar, who will now be forever remembered as a coward, acknowledged that House Democrats had proved their case and that what Trump did was inappropriate. But like the rest of the Senate GOP, Lamar is a weakling. And now hes a weakling who helped make a dangerous man a king. Lets make these assholes regret every second they were selling out America. Pick a Senate race: Gardner in Colorado, McSally in Arizona, Tillis in North Carolina and Collins in Maine (We all know what she was doing). The only way to make these fuckers feel pain is to take their seats from them. Lets not be defeated. Lets be fired up. Because late tonight, when no one is looking, these scumbags are going to vote to give away our country to criminals and kleptocrats. And if that doesnt piss you off, then nothing will. No, Trump and his henchmen are not going to stop what theyre doing. Hell, the Senate hasnt even made their free pass official yet and Pompeo is still up to his old tricks. Visiting Ukraine, because nothing matters, Pompeo still refused to offer a White House visit to Zelensky. And because hes been broken and battered by our corruption, the Ukraine president continued to kiss Trumps ass. Its all so heartbreaking to watch. Maybe the press corps traveling with Pompeo could try some hard questions. Seems like they owe it to their colleague who got kicked off the plane. More: New York Times
Worth the effort
House Democrats on Thursday passed two measures that would limit Trumps ability to start a war with Iran, but we know what happens next. We applaud Democrats for taking this long overdue action, but its hard to feel optimistic about its chances today. Either it denies beneath McConnells wrinkled tortoise fingers or it dies with a Trump veto. Aint nobody coming to save us, folks. This one is on us. More: CNN
