If you're worried about the November election, read this by Teri Kanefield.

(Thread) This isn’t the time to panic. It's time to get busy.
What happens in Nov. depends on what people do today.
Nobody expected the GOP to convict and remove Trump. The goal was for the truth to come out.
McConnell is a shrewd political operator, but Pelosi is shrewder.

Eighth tweet in the thread she says, "8/ If Trump thought he could flip a switch and fix the election, he wouldn't have put so much energy and risked so much trying to get that Ukraine investigation. He knows how to read polls. He saw what happened in the elections since 2016. He knew he needed to do something."

And from her blog, "Things to Do."
https://terikanefield-blog.com/things-to-do/

I turn to her when I need a dose of realistic optimism to talk me back from the ledge.

Don't let the despair overwhelm you. There are more Americans who value the US Constitution and the rule of law then Americans who don't. Never forget that.

They engaged the Russians and obstructed Mueller from finding out
They've done all kinds of things to obstruct Congress on Ukraine, following the money, etc
All kinds of shenanigans ... constantly.

I think it is pretty damn naive to expect they're going to behave like good little boys now. If they lose 2020, a bunch of them will be going to jail. So they're going to continue to lie, cheat, blackmail and doing everything they have to - legal or illegal - to tighten their grip on power. That includes messing with the next election. There is nothing to stop them from doing that now. The President, his cabinet including the AG and the Senate are all corrupt and in on it.

Who is going to stop AG Barr from charging Biden with a crime to damage Biden's hopes?

They're being handed a blank check to get China's help, Russia's help, Russian oligarch $, etc - whatever they need to steal the 2020 election and retain power. What are you going to do if Trump blocks or tampers with the election results? Barr maintains the president cannot be charged with a crime. Impeach him? Seriously?

I'm way beyond a little panicky right now. We're in deep shit.

the gop is being about recusing tRump. They KNOW he is crooked, they know WE know yet they follow along in his footsteps. WHY? I had hopes for John Roberts to uphold the rule of law, but I do not expect that now. It is just like Robert Mueller when he was in charge. I thought he was decent and law abiding. Then Barr threw the spanner in the works, kept the report hidden, and got away with it. I kept hoping Mueller and some of his lawyers would rebel and expose the truth. No such luck. I expect nothing from Roberts now. He had better keep in mind that his cozy lifetime job will be on the chopping block if tRump is allowed to run rampant through this government. They are eliminating plenty of positions, who can say the SC will not be next? Does Putin have a SC? If not, why would tRump need one when he KNOWS everything? It is past time for some decent, honest ADULTS to step in and stop this insanity. The democratic leaders are doing their best, but the gop is full of frat boys without decency, morals, national pride or honesty.

Don't let despair or panic paralyze you. Go out and register voters. Donate to your preferred candidate if you can. Liberal democracy is not free and needs to be fought for constantly, because if not, the wolves show up at the gates. I grew up in Germany. Granted, I was born in the 60s, but my country's history has been ingrained in me.

So yes, I'm terrified right now because I can see the possible trajectory here. But that is why I WILL not sit down, stay silent, or crawl into my safe space - my own four walls and my family. I have children and grandchildren. I owe it to them to regroup, get out there and fight.

They will continue because they have to take complete control, but the majority of Americans are now really pissed off and painfully aware that our institutions have failed us. We’re past the point of believing our representatives are all patriotic servants who work in our best interest.

This ‘trial’ wasn’t just about what Trump has done. It’s about what the Senate has done too.

The wool has been pulled from our eyes, so to speak.

He isn't working so hard for 51% of the vote. He's working so people believe the results of the election. 51% is guaranteed, already, IMO, because machines are hackable.

Whoever is behind the dismantling of free and fair elections knows the public must continue to believe elections are fair. It gives the "winner" legitimacy and LOADS of money is made from the "horse race"

I’ve long suspected he’s basically Just-Another-republi-CON: only in it for the money. If he REALLY cared about his country as the “patriot” he claims to be, he’d have put patriotism OVER party, in the name of doing the right thing, regardless. But he’s being cute and coy and only speaking out of there’s a pay check on the other end. Evidently he was speaking out last night - in a paid speech at a private event. And simply in it for the money (hi-just-buy-my-book!).

Paper ballots can be lost, stolen or destroyed. But that can only happen if there is no legitimate chain of possession. WE KNOW WHERE THE WEAKNESS IS with paper ballots, so we work to eliminate that possibility, ENSURE the chain of possession, witnessed by members of BOTH parties..

ANYTHING electronic can be hacked, and you have no clue where it happened.

We also need to be aware AT THE POLLS that a blue wave is happening... How do we do THAT? Do we all wear blue?

And for the record, in this situation I DO NOT CARE about your right to privacy.

Let's see, do you proudly allow your vote to be known and we save our country? Or do you bask in the glory of your SECRET ballot? Secrecy is how ALL THE SHIT HAPPENS. We used to abhor the idea of deals being made in secret in (smoke filled) back rooms... SUNSHINE DISINFECTS.

If we are successful, after the election, THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME SERIOUS JAIL TIME FOR ALL INVOLVED. Guilty Republicans, hackers and spreaders of lies and disinformation for the purpose of overthrowing a legitimate election (I don' think that FOX NEWS or any news/media outlet has the constitutional right to LIE and pass it off as the truth..), code programmers who alter codes that change election results (no matter how - database or vote tallies), people aware of it who say nothing. NO ONE should be allowed to get away with subverting an election.

If not, it will all happen again.

And if the Fuhrer does lose we need to use their own play book and refuse to enact anything he does after the election. That includes pardons. Pardons were NOT meant to allow criminals to get away with subverting our democracy.

already rules. tRump lost the election by 3 million votes. The Senate represents less than half of the voters in this country. Together, they have tipped the Federal Judiciary their way with ideological and unqualified judges.
They know that progressive policies are more popular than their backward looking vision. I think they see this as their last chance to make the US in their mold, and they will stop at nothing to accomplish this.

The question is how many will vote. But more important how many who want to vote will get denied access because of years of GOP programs and obstacles that have put in place to suppress their access to the voting booth.

MASS Voter Purging programs.
In 2016 Clinton won the popular vote by 2.9 million. Voter purging programs TARGET likely Democratic voters.
17 Million by one estimate between 2016 and 2018

States purged 16 million voters from the rolls before the 2016 election.

We've always known they were going to cheat and steal and lie with impunity to get the result they desire. And now of course they know they can do so without ANY repercussions. Apparently treason and high crimes are no longer a big problem as long as you're a Republican.

So what's to stop this administration from suspending the election for "the good of the country"? What reason do they really need? They will make up as much shit as they feel is necessary, and it's a pretty low bar for that indeed.
